Runway Fashion

Eh, probably won't get too many responses but I'm bored and all the clothing forums I frequent are slow as hell right now.
Anyone on here pay attention to runway collections? I follow mostly men's although I occasionally check some of my favorite designers' women's collections.
Gah Rick Owens F/W 09 is so good. The man is a genius. Robert Geller S/S 09 is also a favorite. Glad that he's building from his strong f/w collection last year. His s/s 08 collection was abysmal imo.
Here's a link to the Rick Owens show

Hm. I was particularly fond of John Varvatos's fall/winter 09 collection, but the safety pin thing was getting on my nerves.

I don't really follow it, but I still admire the talents of designers. My girlfriend is majoring in fashion design so I've ended up watching a lot of shows with her - from runway shows to shows like What Not to Wear. She's really into to. And extremely talented. She uses me for my body so it's kind of cool getting to model all of her outfits for shows and projects though.

Nope.
It doesn't interest me much, although I do like dressing up in nice clothes every now and then.
And I like watching Project Runway.

From some reason, everytime I see this thread's title I read it as "runAway fashion"...

I'm not really into the whole runway/fashion scene... but I have to keep in touch because of my job (photographer).... not really the clothes themselves, but rather how the materials/designs interact with light.... reason is because sometimes I'm called in as a lighting consultant for local or regional shows.... but recently I've declined those sorta jobs (too little money for too much running around).

Although I'm a girl, I don't understand why people spend so much on designer clothes, when you can get the same shirt for wayyy less.

I've never really followed fashion but I have seen a few fashion magazines over the years & have seen a few runway-type shows on tv (my step-dad used to have them on while he was reading, for some unknown reason) and my overall impression of the women's clothes especially is that they're TOTALLY impractical and unless you're extremely skinny they're also practically unwearable. A lot of them are downright ugly, and a lot of the rest are pretty strange looking. If I try to think of them as "modern art" rather than "clothing" it helps...but only a little. 🤢
