What horrible news to wake up to 😐

I switch on the TV and I see BBC news showing pictures of water destroying and flooding everything in Japan, with fears there is more to come.
Horrible stuff.

Japan is a great country. I really hope the number of victims would less than 300 people.
More than 100,000 people died in last tsunami disaster (2004).

you are talking bout Tsunami in Aceh 7 years ago rite?
I agree. back then in Aceh's case only 4 hours the death toll already over 20.000
and stopped at number over than 140.000
but till now, i heard in the news that the death of this earthquake and tsunami hasnt reach 100.
I should say that the building quality between in Aceh and Japan are different =___="

yep.
Ironically, Oprah Winfrey only knew about what happened in Thailand and Sri Lanka.
I watched her show =.=

Even though I don't know them, I still feel sad... 😢

Not the building quality brother, but the mentality of it's people.

...It IS the building quality... the actual buildings (levies) they have... the geology of the area (soft vs hard sediment)... and the characteristics of the fault/earthquake itself.

There are many different factors. The only way corruption would have an effect on the situation would be that they don't build the right buildings in the first place, and the deaths after the quake from appropriation of relief.

Yeah this is really bad I heard it is the worst Earthquake they have faced in many years. I hear the death count is low but may rise and the after shock is going to be strong. You can't really do much about an Earthquake but warn everyone in advance and keep them out of harms way.

Edit: I heared the magnitude is not 9.0 but 8.9 and the after shock will be around 6.0 but that's only what we hear in England

DAMN!!! this is fkng bad... All kind of things will recieve serious damage from this, i hope that all the situation dosnt get more serious. and im worried too about that nuclear reactor that its in fire right now, japan has also declared Nuclear Emergency and most are evacuating the surronding areas in case of radiation leak

@the-burden: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Maps/region/Asia_eqs.php

It's 8.9 for now until more information comes in. The aftershocks are hovering around 6 (mag 7-5).

@Trejon: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/mar/11/japan-declares-nuclear-emergency-quake

The fires already out... it just still hot because it takes time to cool down without a cooling system.

quite agree w/ toto.
I think it's not basically from corruption, building quality very influential.
as I know, brother Shaaka, we both know how the building condition at Aceh in general before earthquake and tsunami, didnt built to muffle shake of earthquake while mostly building in Japan did.

Edit: What's wrong with you 😕 ? People there are dying and you are thinking that this may "mess up releases" and that "anime and mangawill recieve serious damage"...?

Some people in this thread are clearly disgusting otakus. There are some things that are a bit more important than your anime and manga.

Wow, not the kind of news I was expecting to wake up to on TV. It's kind of surreal to see the actual clips of the devastation. The last I heard it was an 8.9? I can't imagine how big that tsunami threat must be for other places like Hawaii to be on high alert. Scary.

I hope everyone's safe.

😔 As with every natural disaster this is terrible.

I read some news articles and didn't see it myself but does anyone have a release statement regarding how prepared the Japanese were for this particular disaster? Japan is infamous for Earthquakes and such.

People can't be that disgusting... can they? I just peg them as being trolls...
