So you're saying if 1000 people die its just as bad as 230,000 people dying?... Or is it that those 1000 lives are worth more than those 230k just because they're japanese?

akuma_river, thank you for the information

Why do the two events need to be compared? Both are horrific tragedies...can't we just leave it at that? 😕

Hey, its Far far far better, in 2004 on that one day, the worldwide deaths per day almost doubled, but like I said a few pages ago, this isn't even going to be a dent.

TofuQueen, I agree that they are both tragedies For Those it Affects, but to the people that aren't related, in other words, us, there are much more important events that have happened before that make this one insignificant.

@wotonito
see with your logic here.
I could say something like, all of your family, relatives and friends died. but its not much of a big deal, compared to those 230k people dying.

edit:

yeah, 9/11 wasn't a big deal, only 3k died...

I don't think you'll get a list of (name for name) confirmed dead for another day or four, but I'll google...

Didn't find any.

i just found an article about a young pregnant german women who lives in sapporo. even there it was magnitude 5

I was updating my site and watching the news when at 5 am out of nowhere there was news about this. I was really shocked, and so sad, Im praying for them.
The images that I cant get out of my head are of people sitting alone stuck on the subways stations with their heads between their knees and one meter apart from each other... really sad.

They were so small...

It may be the strongest in japan in 1200 years but it isn't the deadliest in japan, which was 142k 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_natural_disasters#Earthquakes

You know wotonito, i find your logic a bit disturbing, every human life is precious, sure there have been bigger tragedies with millions of lives lost, but in these cases it isn't about quantity but the quality that is human life. If people die it's a tragedy, how can you downplay the suffering some people must be feeling?

my friends were feeling sad for all the pokemon and people who got hurt. im also woriied that something might happen to one of my friends or to a favorite mangaka. i wouldnt be able to not cry. even if the only got a scratch. the place i live is in the middle of land and it doesnt really have much happen to it. and i never knew so many really bad earthquakes happened in asia...
