***I HATE IRC! *** >:-(
There, that felt good. 🤣
But seriously, why are so many scanlaion groups in love with that @)(#($ system of distribution? It's like some bad throwback to the '80s. With all the other options available these days for torrents or even direct downloads, I wish they would stop distributing scans that way.

Well I'll be blunt.
Tere sure are many methods to distro scanlations,
but you got them for free anyway so if your ISP don't
block IRC it means that you're plain lazy if you complain
about that, because using IRC is easier than using
some other programs (ex photoshop).
Maybe for you having to register to any scanlation
group forums and posting, like 25-40 posts just to
download scanlations is alot easier, but comparing
to the time you spend learning how to use IRC
commands really has advantage to the forum
download method.
Well that's just my opinion...

🤣 🤣 I LOVE IRC, but maybe that's because I first used computers in the 80's...?
Really, once you get it up & running and know the basic commands, it's dead easy to use and #lurk opens up a huge, no, ENORMOUS storehouse of manga available pretty much whenever you want it. Chatting via IRC can also be a lot of fun~ 😃
While I do like torrents for bigger files (anime, dorama, etc.), for manga IRC's the best.
What is it that you hate about it sooooo much, anyway?

Most people nowadays are lazy and want direct downloads (ddl). Perhaps a lot of people don't realize (or don't care) that webhosting costs money, extra storage costs money and extra bandwidth costs money. Therefore, ddl costs money.
The alternative is to put them up on those free filehosting sites that are often either slow or limited. It also makes it hard to keep track of traffic to see whether a project is worth continuing or not.
Torrents take time to start up and really only work best with larger file sizes, which individual chapters of manga usually aren't.
Therefore, the best choice other than some server that collects donations or monthly payments for ddl is IRC.

Took me 1hr to understand IRC
I now love it for my anime/manga, as I can resume DOWNLOADS i get, unlike direct download.
I do prefer using Torrents for larger files.

Second that.
But the problem isn't solved that easly...isn't it?
Why do you hate mIRC? What's your problem with it?
Explain yourself, please.

i never really learned irc, i've just used it for so long that it kinda stuck. then again i haven't done the complicated stuff like make my own channel, scripting or bots >.< nevertheless, irc allows the use of bots, it's person to person rather then http (which requires an account and bandwidth normally on pay servers) and it allows people to gather and mingle too. Irc is like an active forum where we don't have to wait a long time for a response
Personally, i'm always on #lurk

I suppose IRC can be kind of intimidating when you first start using it, but (unless you run into weird problems) the benefits quickly outweigh the time spent learning to use it.
There are plenty of good guides around, too, that will walk you through getting your IRC program up & running - there's one right here in these very forums, in fact. 😀

IRC is fun, and griping about it doesn't make the scanlators just all turn to ddl.
Too much evidence!

So you're ungrateful of scanlation groups that do work for free and choose to use their own methods of distribution? Sucks for you
