Strength - I mean, none of that other stuff matters if they aren't strong enough to protect themselves and others. The other stuff comes after.

Conviction. I thought this through with multiple characters from multiple mediums and A man gotta have a code. No question about that. Even anti-heroes as the Punisher only work if they and the writers stick to their guns and don´t compromise. It´s why the current direction about him willingly becoming a demonic avatar and leading The Hand (the evil ninja from Daredevil) works so well. A perversion of what he stands for but still an evolution of the one-man war on crime and thus a great deconstruction.

A hero can be strong or smart or the right person at the right time but they need to stay true to what they believe in and what the story is about.

Now what makes a great villain? A much harder question to answer and there are even examples like Griffith where new ways to make them detestable can be found decades into the story. Villains are harder to get right than heroes and more thinking has to go it. They can also work with little screen time. JoJo Part 8 was really good at this.

I voted for "Selflessness". I might've put Other and empathy, but selflessness is close enough.

I mean selflessness, funny and moral integrity are the most flexible from the list. A strict portrayal of the rest give us a rigid hero with little room for growth. Most heroes in manga are quite bland and have a mix of the other qualities mentioned and we usually end up with a selfish hero that follows the straight path he is given or makes his own.

I think selflessness is the most interesting since to be a hero the character must face some kind of problem regardless of his qualities. Selfless heroes are bound to be less straightforward, show us other possibilities to solve the problems or at least consider them and grow from what they did.

It's interesting how Determination is the one topping the chart now, but since this is a manga site it's pretty understandable mmm...

A lot of manga MC start as underdog, a lot of time, they win not because they're stronger, they win because they don't give up mmm...
But a lot of the new MC start with super strong power (especially Isekai MC), and that's probably why Moral Integrity and Conviction coming close behind mmm...

I selected "other".
Where is the "intelligence" option?

Other : Intelligence

Well, of course it depends on which hero.. Some hero, like Naruto or Asta, are people who tend to do things by brawl not brain, and I like them that way.

However, I mostly like intellectual characters. They are people who smartly know how to use their power efficiently for their (or other people's) benefit.

Take Kim Gongja from SSS Class Revival Hunter, or Han Yoojin from My S-Class Hunters for example. They can efficiently defeat enemies using brains, even if their skills not always on the offensive sides.

Of course there are other traits that I love from my favorite heroes/characters, but knowing what you can do best with what you have at hand is my favorite thing.

I like this one... There's subtle distinctions to be had between many of these traits.

I had a hard time picking, so I ended up going with 'Moral integrity'... but if I were to have the choice again, I'd go with 'Helpful'. I don't have one favourite character / hero but some of the ones I like are simply trying to be helpful.
It feels relatable, makes the character personable... it's endearing, coming from a character who doesn't have it all under control.

And it's what a 'hero' does, help.

No brains? I swear, too many MCs are brain dead.

Intelligence was the first thing that came to mind. Dumb heroes tend to win by luck. I didn't want to choose Other so I chose Protective. Can't be much of a hero if they aren't protecting something/someone, even if it is in a broad sense.

Superman is not my favorite superhero (he's my second favorite), Static is. And, quite frankly, as much as I like most of the aspects described here, I chose moral integrity because in both cases it's the fact they have good values and don't betray those values that sets them apart from an antihero or villain.

For anyone who only knows the recent live action movies from the DCEU: I refer to BtAS, StAS, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman Beyond, Static Shock and the other Bruce Tim style cartoons.

He must be able to admit his mistakes, otherwise, no matter how cool superpowers he has, it's useless. Those who believe that they are always right simply do not see their mistakes and live in rose-colored glasses.
