It’s a fan interpretation. Since Pucci is a Christian or catholic priest, being homosexual is against his beliefs. He loved Dio as much as he loved God. Christians are supposed to have a relationship with their God and treat it more like a relationship than an actual religion. Christian’s are called to be children of God, treating God more as a father and friend. Pucci loved Dio in this way, as a close friend and father figure, looking up to him and wanting to continue Dio’s legacy and dreams, just as a son does to a father, just as Christian’s do to God.
