Should Series with both a manga and a scrolling webtoon version have two separate entries or just one? They tend to be similar but not exactly the same.

Some of the common differences are:

  • Different/missing panels
  • Chapter breaks
  • Color vs Black & White

Example: Nyotaika shita Boku wo Kishi-sama-tachi ga Nerattemasu has both a manga (black & white page format) AND a Full color webtoon (vertical scrolling format) version

Are they the same author and publisher?

Same author. Not sure about publisher in the original japanese versions, but the MU page does list multiple japanese publishers. Both are licensed by Renta for the official english versions. A lot the panels are the same with color added. (I haven't read them both completely or done an indepth comparison)

Generally, they do not get separate series entries

Thanks for the confirmation 🙂

Question when updating a series with multiple versions/formats should the "Status in Country of Origin" reflect both the manga chapter count as well as the status of the webtoon? (Similar to how manga that are released in multiple formats have that noted in the "Status in Country of Origin" section)

edit: for the example I used before the manga has 30 chapters and the webtoon 11 (the chapter counts are not 1:1 with each manga chapter being split into multiple webtoon chapters)

Makes the search more difficult when separated, I think.
Just add fields to the entry, if not already exists, for variants.
This is not different like novel versus promo versus manga for separate entries.
Cheers!

I have updated the example Series. Is there any formatting that needs to be changed? Information in the wrong spot? Any additional information needed?

Once it is correct I plan to update the original post with instructions so other Updaters know how to format similar series.
