Misa has no backstory. Period.

So has anyone else thought that Fujiwara-sensei seems to have forgotten that Misaki is the main character? Misaki has been obsessing over Usui's past for 30+ chapters, and no one seems to care about Misaki's past at all, and frankly, I'm getting a little bored of the whole thing. The only things we know about Misaki's past are that her father took off and left a huge debt and that her personality changed--probably because her father left--in middle school, and we learned both of these things in the first chapter to set up the premise. I get that Usui is supposed to be a huge mystery and all, but right now Misaki is an even bigger mystery than he is. And whenever she learns something about him, she admits within the next two pages that she didn't learn anything important. It's getting really frustrating to read because I'm seeing basically no character or romantic development at all.

I've been thinking the same thing! We really don't know anything about Misaki's past at all the only look we've had into her past is when Shintani appeared. I really want to know what exactly happened to Misaki's family and how it crushed her to the point of hating men. I feel like the manga has been turned into Usui's bibliography. All we've been reading about is Usui's past which is getting to be a little bit of a drag since its been going on for so many chapters and no interesting events have happened since then. I hope that something interesting happens to both of the characters, instead of just focusing on Misaki finding out Usui's past. Plus, there hasn't been any character or romantic development since they confessed their feelings to each other, or any new plot line to keep the story going, besides someone who looks like Usui appearing. .it's a bit dull right now. 🙁

Thank you for saying this! Usui's great, but he's NOT THE MAIN CHARACTER. And it's not all about him. Just because he's a rich talented kid going to a regular school doesn't mean he's the only one with an interesting history. Sure, he was a mystery at first. But now that mystery's solved, and I'm kind of waiting to find out about the forgotten mystery of Misa's past. And even if she doesn't have an interesting past, I at least wish the story would start revolving more around her again. Recently it's just been Usui Usui Usui.

ye i was thinking about this too..i mean i know usui is a mystery and all but misaki is the leading role and we don't know anything about her past! it's irritating. alot of chapters where only about usuis past and its not even all known yet! i also have this questions like who is misaki's dad? why did he leave? and alot more about her chilhoode..but i couldn't find this manga frustrating at all. it's so funny and entertaining! although we don't know alot about her past this manga is still very interesting and im sure everything about her past will be found later on.

While I'm really enjoying the current storyline, especially since it's upgrading Misaki's and Usui's relationship, I have to agree with you guys, too.
I'd love, love, LOVE to have Misaki's father brought back into the picture and see the affect it has on Misaki; I get the feeling he might be the only other man (besides everyone's favorite perverted space alien) in her life who could "take away" Misaki's power, emotionally. 😃 I'm hoping that's the direction Fujiwara-sensei takes after the Walker/Usui Arc is either resolved or sidelined. Or maybe it'll even be intertwined? 😲

I would have to agree.
In the beginning of this manga, it was refreshing, and fun to read. But now it seems to have gone downwards, with Usui always denying the facts that he loves her, Misaki saying she can't love him 'cause he comes from a rich family, etc. It's really annoying, because when we first met Misaki, she was this strong, independent and tough woman who would fight for her rights, but now, it's like she has that really weak side that just annoys me. No offense. And for Usui, I understand he has a past, but who cares anymore. It's getting really tiring to read it, it's like the author's just repeating. We get it, now let's see the romantic side of this. There is hardly any development between the two, and when it's heading that way, it always goes back to where they started -____- . I'm starting to lose interest in this manga.

maybe that was her goal to make you anticpate more for misa's story? Or she's thinkiong that now that Usui is pretty much delat with lets explore Misa-chan! Maybe there's just more to come. Hold out my friends you never know! 😀

Back again. I'm really starting to worry about this series now. Yay for plot and romantic development and all that, but I think we're approaching the end game, with no Misaki-papa in sight. The way recent chapters have been playing out, it really does look to me like nothing more will be said about Misaki's past at all. With the way the main and supporting casts have both developed in literally the last three or four chapters, I can't help but feel the manga will be over in maybe one or two more volumes. From my experience with high school romance manga, KWMS has set up for one or two minor arcs, and then the epilogue. I really want to see this series to continue, but to me it all seems to point to "THE END."

i wasnt really thinking about this much till you brought it up but youre right! she doesnt have and backstory! but in the more recent chapters im starting to get the feeling that misakis backstory will be introduced soon now that usui had to transfer to miyabigoaka so his story is done so maybe sensei will move to usui wanting to learn more about misaki, it seems like that would be a direction it would go. but im really curious how theyll see eachother now that usui is being the puppet of the walker family (for a reason i dont quite understand, isnt his brother the heir? why make usui be more involved with the walkers?) so excited 😀

dont kill me, but I kinda disagree...
I never noticed any mystery in misaki... she's kinda a classic (in a post-modern way-ish) ther's an ongoing trend of strong female leads, but most of them only turn strong, or stronger, after some kind of change in their lifestyle prior to the story.
hikari from S.A is an example, she "became" strong with her father's guidance, but swore to become the strongest and best, after meeting a rival in her childhood. yes, in that manga they show flashbacks to those events, but only because it's part of her relationship with kei.
another example is kyouko from skip beat. only in that case, the beginning of the story includes the traumatic event that made kyouko turn "stronger", but it is revealed that kyouko was already strong before (she could hide her tears, and suffer bullying without ratting people out and still maintaning hope for a better future, not to mention a highschool aged kid working 2 jobs to support an idiot) that goes in line with the character profile - her mother rejected her.
so knowing this is an established character profile, KWMS mangaka could have ridden on the idea while relying on the fact that most people will complete the story for themselves. she did give the background, her character was altered by a parent, and then she found herself in a school where she had to become top dog or suffer quietly.
so the "lack of information" could lead to maybe some flashbacks and the return of her father as "the bigger story" coming after usui's mess (we all know how these genres work, we get a small conflict before a bigger one appears, and it's too early for an end, meaning were looking for a big KABOOM in future chapters).
OR the mangaka might have hidden some aspects of misaki's background on purpose, to lead people on and then shatter all their theories.
I do agree it's dragging out a bit tho.
and sorry for the analysis. 🤢

I would hope that the Usui back story and crap would lead back to her story, possibly his family being involved with the debt and that will come out soon as one of the next major hurdles for their relationship.

I dropped it about that time too. The classic mysterious male lead being a rich guy with some family problem is getting tiring about this time. Plus, their relationship is extremely annoying and vague. AND Misa's a total idiot; I don't know where the "Devil Misa" went. It just went 'poof' and she became the generic (crybaby, damsel in distress) type of heroine. I understand that she fell in love that's why she changed, but to totally throw out her strong personality is very disappointing.

The most recent chapter deals with that. I'm not going to spoil it.
Ayuzawa Sakuya is in the picture now
I'll admit it the demon pres being absent is a bit of a let down but I'm assuming that they are building to something.I enjoy this series too much to abandon it.

Read Chapter 69! The background story is starting 😀 Great!!!!
He stepped back and threw his arms out.
"I'm always crazy around you Rose. Here, I'm going to write an impromptu poem for you."
He tipped his head back and shouted to the sky:

But never in blue
Sharp as a thorn
Fights like one too.” - Adrian; Shadow Kiss
