ok, im trying to read an LN right now, and instead of reading it in my pc screen i want to read it away from the computer.

so i get calibre, this thing fails converting a text document to epub half the time

i got sigil... at first the program worked great, and after i stripped an ebook of its formatting, was able to A (note 1) file to work perfectly... now it craps out text that is at best 7 pixels wide by 10 high, way too small to comfortably read, and the nook simple touch wont change any of the text size...

everywhere, and i mean everywhere i ask i am more or less told to go eff myself when i ask a question, yay fun times... considering i got the thing not to buy books or read normal books, but to convert long text stories i find online to ebook formats for reading away from the computer... yea... frustration at dealing with everyone is just normal now...

anyone able to help me?
its getting to the point that if i ever do get the thing to work 100% of the time, i'm making a guide with pictures.

Have you tried using a different format? Personally I use .mobi or .azw3 (because I use a kindle) and it works just fine.

nook simple touch... this thing has next to no support... though i did root the thing so there may be something that i can do but i really have no clue, i really only rooted it because it was possible to read manga on it with a better program... but than i saw what it looked like with the higher refresh rate and no... not worth it.

i do see that it can read pdfs somehow but cant do txt... ill see if there is something i can do that way.

PDF files are some of the worst ways to do ebooks for most reading devices, so I wouldn't recommend it. I don't have experience with a Nook though, so maybe it'll work better?... (I have a Kindle Paperwhite)

I've used calibre before and I don't remember there being any problems, though I believe I was converting from doc to epub then...

In what way does it mess up?

first, no, not resolved, but it has a working bandaid, reason i don't keep up with this is because i had christmas things to deal with and a few birthdays that came rapidfire.

various ways of converting in calibre just outright fail and i cant figure out why, my favorite being a reliable crash when you convert about 30-50000 words, about half way through it fails... granted that was a txt file... apparently an xml will convert better, but its a compatibility crapshoot at best.

the pdf format is natively supported on the nook, and if i zoom the text 3 times and set the base text to arial and 8, than it converts it to something that is reasonable.

also, the reason i'm trying to move away from the calibre convert is because at least on my nook simple touch, it double spaces everything and makes reading a pain in the ass. if i zoom the text to a reasonable size ill get 15 maybe 20 lines of text a page, meanwhile if i don't have that double space issue, i get about 42 lines a page.

another reason for wanting the ebook publishing to work outright is i can easily make chapters, i can easily find where i left off, what i want to read, and probably best of all, i get near complete formatting control.

thing is i only got it to work once, for one file than it never worked again... at least correctly.
i ripped the formatting from another book i found online that i liked the look of, ill post the code here next in case anyone who knows can tell me where i screwed up.

I haven't done it since my Acer died last year and had some trouble with the last batch, but I used Mobipocket:

It's been a while, so you may need to fiddle around a bit, but I used copy & paste the files into Microsoft Word. Make sure to save the file to a .doc file, don't use .docx. Wordpad might also work. Close out of the document editor before trying load into Mobi pocket.

If I remember correctly, the next step is to open the file in Mobipocket, then use a pull down menu to import the file into an .html file. From there you can publish. The formatting will not be pretty & the preview option in Mobi ebook didn't work.

From there, I plugged my Kindle into the laptop & copy and pasted the file into the Kindle.

Baka-tsuki's formatting worked for a number of works (Index, Zero no Maria, SAO), but the later SAO volumes copied from trans tap were a mess.

As an aside, I am buying SAO from Yen Press now that they are publishing it. I may try it again for Hikaru ga Chikyuu ni Itakoro.

mobi isn't natively supported, will that mobipocket do epub or do you not know?

From the Mobipocket site, it looks like they just use the mobi file type. According to the forum over at mobileread.com, Calibre should be able to make the conversion. eHow.com shows a link to a site that claims to convert a mobile to a Nook friendly file as well; I found that link via Google.

i figured out what was causing the epub issue, it was [ ] that were in the text.

took me months of on and off searching what the problem is, and the first ln i put on it had 400+ 1 and so ons that it slapped me in the face that thats the issue...

no other program should see that as an issue, just the reader...
at least now i know to strip all non text data from things i make epubs of.

with that said, anyone know a program that will do this for me? i can do it on my own kind of, but an automated option would be better.

it gives off a damn near perfect format, the code was ripped out of a free ebook,
H the chapters names and split them and you now have a table of contents.

all in all, awesome that i got this crap fixed... and now i have read nearly 200 chapters of the book im reading, wish they would pick up the translating pace.
