I don't know if there is already a post about this, but here it goes. 😮
I was so disappointed with the ending of Death note. Now I don't usually root for the villain to win, but I really want light to triumph.
Maybe Light was a bit crazy but his way of doing things did produce successful results, crime rate was down. I don't know but I was so pissed when the manga ended >:-( and I'm usually pleased with how a manga ends
What are your views 😐

Hm, it was pretty clear from the beginning that Light would fail, the couldn't let a villain win. So I was very surprised that he were able to kill L and this episode marks the end of the series for me! Because what follows is the greatest trash I've seen. These two kids are so horrible, at least one of them dies, but the worst one still survives. Two 13 years old kids are having are race who can catch Kira faster "Head --> Wall".

Yes, it did. I was a fan of Light's throughout the whole thing, except for the last chapter. His death was unbecoming of who he was.
However, we knew he'd lose since Ryuk had stated in the beginning that he would be the one to write Light's name in his own Death Note.

He did win technically, since he managed to kill L, avoid getting caught for a long time, and killed a lot of criminals but you knew he wouldn't live forever to begin with.
I didn't like Light because he killed off L so i was glad he died

No, if Light had won, he wouldn't have gotten caught at all. Evading but still getting captured does not equal winning.

Well I think that anyway they did it would have been disappointing if
Light died or didn't die.

Light was a sociopath with a god complex and deserved what he got and the pathetic end it brought about. Though it really should've been L that caught him.
On a side note I think this manga has made manga publisers out there even more afraid of killing off popular characters, and thus the resurrection of a number of characters that were thought to be dead in the more popular shonen manga of late. Death Note showed what happens when you randomly kill of a character with a large following, you lose a great portion of your readership, which the producers really don't like. I think now if there's a hint of one getting offed they rush in and force the manga-ka to write them back in. Think the resurrection of Kekashi, Hinata, and all the leaf village in Naruto, and Kubo's tendency NEVER kill a major character bad or good. While I don't like that Light beat L, I can appreciate the balls it took to do so and not try and find some way to finagle him back in to make people happy.
Wow that turned into a bit of a rant... 😳
I wanted Light to win as well 🤣
I wasn't disappointed with the ending though. It was a fitting ending for the manga, it worked well. It would have been very open had Light actually won and continued to dominate, you know what I mean?
I used to love him in the beginning. But I'm rereading Death Note right now, and he's such a jerk. I mean, seriously, he doesn't care about a human's life at all! And then he claims to create a peaceful world for humanity, pfft~ He's just doing that for himself!
Though the thing that I will always hold against him, is that he killed Naomi Misora. 🤢 She was such a great character! If she had met L, Light would have been arrested the next day. (Curse you, Light! Curse you~)
I don't hate him though. In fact, I like him. Just think he's a big jerk. ;-;

As far as storytelling is concerned, it's a consistent ending with a fair amount of poetic justice, so it passes.
On the moral level, I also agree that the ending was appropriate. I'm not particularly sure if I care about the execution of criminals to the extent that I should (though it rubs me the wrong way, certainly), but what really got me is that Light believed that he was an appropriate person to decide which course of action was "just," which I think disqualified him in and of himself. At least L was honest enough to admit that he just enjoyed the game.
Regardless, Death Note had a ton of storytelling pitfalls and inconsistencies running throughout it, so I'd actually venture that the ending was one of the more clever bits about it.

Well I guess everyone has mixed views on Light, but one thing I don't understand is why everyone loves L, I actually hated him and was soo glad when he died, maybe I'm just a weirdo.
Also I acknowledge that Light was a bit of a sociopath and a bigot but I really liked him, I dont know I just think he's cool. But I understand what everyone's saying it would be wierd if he dii triumph in the end but still.......................

I stopped soon after L died, because for me after that it became a rehash except with two Ls instead of one.
