I am just curious. You see it everywhere. In your social network, the internet, media, etc. How do you feel about it?

As for myself, I would say I believe it is a good thing in moderation. Ultimately, being blunt can open up a degree of freedom and relaxation that is needed among friends. You are simply who you are. However, it can be like a double edged sword. That same freedom can become the other's cage. I am curious as to where you believe you should draw the line between being sensitive to others and being yourself.

PS: I hope this doesn't create unnecessary conflicts, as it can be a touchy subject. If it does, please feel free to delete the thread.

Welcome it.

By the way, there seems to something wrong with the graphical depictions of the polls.

Can be good when used responsibly, to openly and freely state opinions, but can be bad when it's used as a license to be unnecessarily rude.

Bluntness plus a little tact is the best combination.

If bluntness is a double edged sword then I think it is up to the other person to have shield against it instead of letting it trap them. I don't believe you're freedom of being yourself should be someone else's cage, in fact it should be a key to theirs. People should be blunt and instead of being offended people should actually listen to what others have to say. People shouldn't take others' bluntness personally because it is their conclusion based on their observations of their environment and experiences. However, being blunt is different from being mean; it's all about intention.

Well, this is one of my first posts, so I actually have no idea what you mean. Any tips to fix it?

That's a very interesting perspective. I really like that. Thanks for your input!

LOL! Maybe I should add that to the list for fun. 🙂

I prefer people to be blunt rather than tiptoe around a subject. However, there is a very fine line between being straighforward and being rude. The hard part is determining where it is so as to not hurt other people. Everyone talks about having the freedom to say whatever they want, but they forget that it's a "freedom" (aka, privilege or gift) not a "right". Your "freedoms" only exist if you respect those of other and do not encroach upon or destroy them in anyway. Like I said, it's a delicate matter, sometimes it's hard to tell what will and what won't offend somone.

I personally love bluntness- I think people should tell it like it is, but there have been occasions where I have apparently hurt some of my friends' feelings. However, most of them were able to take my bluntness and realize something important thanks to it-- and still be friends with me with no awkward feeling, so I guess it really comes down to who you are talking to. If you know they can't take raw truth, then use some tact

I really like it, to be honest, because I'm such a closed down person. You'd think I wasn't if you knew me, but I bury basically everything down, even things that don't need to be (unhealthy, I already know.) Anyway, I find it very refreshing when people are straight up with me. It's something I really appreciate. So I think bluntness is a good thing. Not rudeness, but bluntness.

Honestly I appreciate it. I have at best stunted social skills, and I honestly don't always know if what I'm doing is technically acceptable, so I do tend to appreciate it when someone tells me when and if I'm doing something wrong.

That being said, some things are just a matter of perspective so a bit of moderation is necessary I suppose.

Make up your mind, indecisive Pikabu! :'P

As for me. I'm pretty blunt and I'd like it for people to just honestly say what they feel, though there is a fine line between bluntness and rudeness.

It's great. However, it isn't practical. It's difficult to find a person who is masterful enough to make observations about a person's abilities w/o bias or ulterior motive. Those that say they welcome it are crazy. Wouldn't you want people to constantly say positive things when around you than make snide passive aggressive remarks about every little thing they observe about you. I think not.

Sounds like you have no idea what bluntness is.
