Who do you think the main character is closest too out of the people that are'nt considered the "typical" main characters, like Gaara, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi, Iruka...
so basicly out of the people that are in his age group and not main characters....

I feel he's most emotionally tied to Gaara and Sasuke. Gaara because they can relate to each other as being outcasts in their respective villages. Sasuke because they've both lost, or never had family. Iruka sensei would be next since he is a father figure to Naruto. Sakura was a childish infatuation. I, for one, think he's out grown her and sees her more as a sister now.

he does seem to have a good bond with Shikamaru, but second to that i would pick Kiba, and then Neji...
