Boyfriend (SOURYO Fuyumi)
Mars: Not bad artwork, but really old.

really?? Hmm I kinda liked it

Mars artwork grew on me after a couple of chapters. If it wasn't for the story, I would've stopped reading immediately.
Boyfriend, on the other hand, I just could not stand.

I don't know why I'm looking for them, they're interesting, very interesting 🙂

Hm, since we're talking about art quality and interesting, I found something incredibly odd several months ago. I saved the picture because it was so weird: this. It's the four volumes of Sougen no Ookami by Yamada Mineko. (It is probably shoujo, but I'm not sure.) Volumes one and four are typical meh quality oldie-shoujo-style, two is much more realistic, much better quality, and has a very colored-pencil look, and three is super deformed and just plain bad. How can it be that the same artist did all four of these covers? 😕

Edit: SInce I'm mentioning stuff, you may also be interested in the publishing company Harlequin, who chooses as a general rule artists who draw misanthropically. (Well, techinically these manga are josei, but they choose these bad artists so consistently that it's awfully peculiar, so I thought I'd mention it.) Um, I'd estimate about 85-95% of them (sorry, even though I have looked at a few hundred of these manga, I'm estimating off the top of my head, so I gave a big range) are both misanthropic and pretty ugly. Actually, so many are ugly (some of them supremely so) that if I see one of Harlequin's manga that doesn't make me go "ew," I often end up adding it to my lesser wish list out of shock. The way they're so consistent makes me really curious; I know I'd like to have a chance to talk to one of Harlequin's staff to ask them why they pick the artists they do... Maybe it's because they choose only artists who aren't good enough to get published with other companies, in order to give them a chance? After all, talentless artists have dreams too, I suppose... Well, anyway, have a look if you're interested.

I hear you say "Why?" Always "Why?" You see things; and you say "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say "Why not?"
