Are there any considerations to create a spearate site for all these novels?
We are at the point that they are more popular than mangas itselves.
From the weekly stats, 2/3 of the top is novel:
https://www.mangaupdates.com/stats.html?period=week&page=1&perpage=25&exclude_type=Novel
I know that it would be an enormous ammount of work, so I'm just curious how the staff thinks about this matter.

Did you miss the huge ass discussion on this? http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=50308 Filled with the expected whining "oh please i wanna keep my novels just because i wanna".
Also, to clarify, MU popularity stats are not really popularity, more like activity. More people still read manga rather than novels.

Did MU ever reach a consensus for that? I skimmed through a few pages and didn't find any decision-like posts.
Is this me in a nutshell?
Pretty much.

Naturally, there will never be a consensus, but at least everyone had their say. In the end, it'll be what the site's owner decides.

I wanna know why site owner accepts machine translations of novels as real translations of novels?
It makes no sense. 🙄

Well, there is no real quality control. Who's going to judge what level of translation quality is permissible? Only other translators are competent enough, but they don't run this site. You could take it upon yourself to check the quality of certain releases and request that they be taken down, but that's a lot of work for everyone involved.

Because he just does the same with manga? If you go case by case it will be neverending.

Heh, ebisu. You do know that there are many mods and admins in MU, right? Banning one group will stop future releases. (How they do if your group releases april's fool releases on MU)

I see. Thanks for the explanation both for you.
Now I agree about the real quality control but there's no real need for that in most cases. MU staff just need to check out the novel group's sites. Most of them write in their "about" pages that they got no Japanese knowledge but are using software to "translate" and proofreading on whatever makes sense. (They are guessing on the rest so there's a continous flow in story).
Anyway, do you really need quality control to see if it's a machine translation when you get something like this on MU:
12/08/14 Ark (Novel) 5 1 Ark Machine Translations
and the latest today
07/10/15 Ark (Novel) 20 7 Ark Machine Translations
I'm referring to the group name "Ark Machine Translations. How can no one see that this machine translations and not real translations? We need a clear rule saying: "Mangaupdates only for manga". 😉

No need for quality control. Any blind guy can spot a machine translation.
Of course proper English is no sign for an accurate translation, but improper English should at least be a criteria for not accepting it as a release.
I mean, other languages aren't accept here, either, so would rubbish, which clearly isn't English, still be accepted?

FYI, even some manga are machine translated. Most MTLs are very obvious as PROzess said, but that kind of quality control isn't practical. There are also many grey areas. Some translators are "machine-assisted" and there are still other machine translations that are so heavily edited that they look natural.
It could be possible to discriminate against groups that ONLY do machine translations, but then you'd have to spot all of them, not just singling out the ones with a glaring "Machine Translations" in their group name.
