I'm looking for a cultivation story where the main character goes on sect missions with other characters. There's a part where they go after a general who's secretly cultivating a demonic technique. I remember there was a chubby character that the protagonist invites to join the group.

Fairly sure it's The Grand Mudang Saga... but it's been about a year since I last read it. I know that the mc teams up with a chubby guy (took a quick peek at the first 10 chapters or so) but I don't remember much more...

It's not that one either. The art style was somewhat similar to After Chopping Wood for 10 Years, All the Immortals Want to Become My Disciple... I think. Honestly, I don't remember that story very well. I would still have it in my browser if the site I was reading it on hadn't gone down years ago.
