There was Spiderman and Spawn that i know, and in anime many more like Blade, X-men, Ironmen and so. I think the story was darker then the original, and they tormented the heroes more.

I would read the comic if I want to read comic.

A certain DC movie just came out btw. A professional "top critic" wrote that it was so bad, that it assaults the idea of entrainment itself. SO bad... See you in the cinemas, in spirit.

Probably not because the main thing I hate about western comics is reboots and retcons. I want a series I can start with chapter/volume one and count up from there til the end. A manga adaption I feel would just be another reboot since there isn't much continuity to follow.

The latest Batman stuff doesn't even feature Robin, and my favorite thing about that series was having an older man in spandex dress as a bat run around with a little boy in booty shorts. Did Robin die or something?

Yup, I would.

There are two main reasons I don't tend to read American superhero comics:
(1) I dislike the paneling. There are so many words to each panel--it never seems to quite flow like manga/manhwa/manhua does, making it difficult for me to read. If I wanted to read something with a lot of words, I would just read a novel. When I read comics, I want the words to be part of the image, and it seems that American superhero comics never seem to entirely grasp that. (Alternative comics are a different story, but I'm assuming we're sticking to the superheroes.)
(2) The reboots/multiverses/crossover continuities are so confusing. It's like having to read twenty different storylines just to understand some small piece you might be interested in. It's basically Clamp's terrible crossover shenanigans as standard practice. And just when you get attached to a particular continuity, it gets retconned! I prefer some stability with my backstories.

Usually, when these superhero comics get adapted to manga/anime, they smooth out these issues. Only one chosen continuity, with standard manga paneling. In that case, since I read widely in all genres, I would definitely give it a try. Even generic/overdone plots can be interesting in the hands of a good mangaka.

I would give it a shot. Seeing how mangaka would handle the costume redesigns would be worth a look at least. Having good self contained stories that aren't interrupted by frequent crossover events American comics have been plagued with for well over a decade now would also be a fine change of pace.

To be fair that's already a pretty common thing. The really dark Japanese version of Spiderman is probably the most infamous, but there have been a couple of different Japanese takes on Batman, The Avengers, Spawn, and Sandman as well. There was a boom of adapting western action oriented television series into manga and illustrated LNs too for a while. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. got both a shounen and a josei version, even Columbo got a Japanese only retouch. I should get around to adding that stuff to the DB someday but who really cares about low budget manga versions of crappy 70s television serials?

PS: The letter D and C stand for nothing now. You can trace it back to Detective Comics but again, now meaningless. They used to be National Allied Publications.
