The Beatles, you did say modern music and to me modern music=pop so yeah, I mean they were doing their thing back in the 60s, 60s!!!!!!!!!

The first time I heard one of their songs I thought it was a new pop/rock band no joke.

The other bands mention I love and they influence their specific gernes, the Beatles went a wide range, heard Helter Skelter?

if we are looking at it in those terms, im taking Elvis then

To tell you the truth, Elvis just stole every song he sang from black people in the south and they never got any money from that or even acknowledgment from him.

Willie Dixon: Wrote songs that have been covered by/influenced Zeppelin, Elvis, Muddy Waters, Rolling Stones, Howlin' Wolf, Eric Clapton, Grateful Dead, Stevie Ray Vaughan etc.

Most of the songs he sold the rights to for as little as $30

It's a little off topic, but not too much. I remember watching something that said Eminem was the most influential music artist in the past ten years.

^I highly doubt he'll stay in the musical history as strongly as Beatles and Hendrix and all other artists above.

I vote for Hendrix, because I wonder how music nowadays would look like if he never existed.

The Beatles followed by Led Zeppelin (although I like them better) for me. Music wouldn't sound the way it does today without them (for better or worse).

Also, they're British which means they're proper people. There's no such thing as left-hand drive for me.... Only right-hand drive and wrong-hand drive.

Where's Eric Clapton.... and Radiohead 😛

You're joking, right?!?

I picked specific artists that have had the most praise among current artists as influence, and those who are covered the most. Clapton was incredibly influential, but once Jimi Hendrix hit, he took a back seat. And as great as he is, he was nothing new and nothing dynamic. He played the blues standards that he knew and loved.

I don't count anything after Derek and the Dominoes as part of Clapton's great era of recording.

Fair enough.... but then you should've included Albert King, Buddy Guy and John Lee Hooker.... maybe Stevie Ray Vaughan as well (although they ain't bands)

Just my 2 cents.... although my personal biggest influential 'artist' is Ayrton Senna, but he probably doesn't count.

True, but in the current scope of music, no one plays blues (that is really well known). Many people don't even know who those people are. Everyone knows Chuck Berry, so he was put up there. And Metal is one of the most popular genres of music around, which is why I included Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Metallica.

Same goes for lot's of popular metalish bands(SOAD, RATM) they're not metal they are alternative... yes because the label alternative really describes the style of music they play ¬_¬
