I really like some of the words to "I'm in Love with the 80's" by Relient K.
I know its christian rock and I'm not even christian, but the words are cool and make me laugh.
I like this line:
"And I'm only gonna pierce my left ear
I've been working on thes moustache all summer long
And my favorite band will always be Tears for Fears
And I'm gonna wear a pink tux to the prom."

Its kinda dumb, but I like it....

What do you mean with dumb? Not Tears for Fears, I hope 🙂 I like that duo too, like how Roland dances in Mad World MV, the 80's....... 😃
But pink tux... don't know.... but I wanna see 😉

No. no, the text is not dumb, it's amusing and has something....

Quote from Short Term Memory Loss by Astronautalis

You're turning off your course again
That's all that kills a stronger man
With hungry headlights closing in
Saint John is looking welcoming
Alright
Death is always closer than…
Death's closer than all your friends
Death is closer than you think
He's closer than your friends and things
Alright

We drove that car into a full-on spin
I wonder just how would it feel if we dove on in
I caught a glimpse of my screaming friend
But when the sound cut out I swore she's laughing, alright
Shattered lights spiral and blur on in
And then the rain sang along to her freckled skin
This city's just a smudge on watery lands
I couldn't help but feel helpless so I kissed her again

Turn it off and walk away
Don't look down to those waves
You'll never be the same again,
And we all suffer short term memory loss
From time to time

You got him jumping everywhere across the gaps in stairs
Embracing every nick and cut and jam-fingered face plants
He doesn't care for good repair soak up the sun
And chip the tooth to feel the truth of breaking every bone that came in
The blood's the thing that drives the dream that makes him think he can fall off
The blood's the thing that boils to steam that makes machines out of our hearts

The tires putting out like tired moms and troubled teens
With secret smoke-breaks balancing between showmanship and discovery
Mister melodrama's over there covering things
Directing traffic, mumbling like, "Move it along, nothing to see"
It's such a funny dream; it's such a sight to see
Honking horns and double-breeze
Matthew's bridge and a watercolor bleed
And I'm just standing there, shifting in my skin
Sifting great below, fall to the river's wash
Taste my blood, embrace the breaking bones

Turn it off and walk away
Don't look down to those waves
You'll never be the same again,
We all suffer short term memory loss from time to time
We all suffer short term memory loss from time to time
We all suffer short term memory loss from time to time
We all suffer short term memory loss
From time to time.

This song just hits me hard somewhere or another.

Off the wall? You ain't heard nothing yet!

The song I posted was done by this guy in this style. Watch that YouTube; he namechecks InuYasha.

Either way, that ain't whack at all. Astronautalis is likely my favorite musician these days. My second favorite is going to be Venetian Snares, who did this, (and yes, that is a sample of Billie Holiday's Gloomy Sunday*) this, this, and this (Skip to 2:15 in this video). I listed those, if you can't tell, in order of increasing insanity.

Now, that third song is from one of his more recent albums. I personally think that Integraation is the best thing Aaron Funk (Venetian Snares) ever did. I would suggest that anybody with a love of music immediately locate a copy of My Downfall (Original Soundtrack) and listen to it nonstop. Much of it is very ambient; no break or glitchcore in the least, like this song. It's actually really cool; his work in Orchestral pieces is beautiful!

*In this case, he's covering an old Hungarian song, and she covered that old Hungarian song too, so he used bits and pieces of both, along with his own work.

Now then, how's that for off the wall shit?

AIC - Nutshell
We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
And yet I fight
And yet I fight
This battle all alone
No one to cry to
No place to call home

Oooh...Oooh...
Oooh...Oooh...

My gift of self is raped
My privacy is raked
And yet I find
And yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can't be my own
I'd feel better dead

Oooh...Oooh...
Oooh...Oooh...

A-ha - Living A Boy's Adventure Tale
I've fixed my dwelling for the night
Lights in pairs come passing by
where I hide

I need some time now on my own
Leave my loneliness alone
To lick my wounds

Night has found me just in time
to help me close my eyes
one more time

Living a boy's adventure tale
In so many ways
Living a boy's adventure tale
For so many days
I'm living a boy's adventure tale
Can't escape, if I wanted to
Living a boy's adventure tale
I may be dreaming but I feel awake

I've been lost in so many places
Seeked love in so many faces

A change of weather,
the rain pours down
My head in hands,
pressed to the ground

And where am I supposed to go now

Living a boy's adventure tale
In so many ways
Living a boy's adventure tale (aah)
Living a boy's adventure tale
a voice I hear
Living a boy's adventure tale
Singing a lullaby for me

Living a boy's adventure tale
Because of you
Living a boy's adventure
Oh you know it's true
Living a boy's adventure tale
In so many ways (aah)
For so many days
I love you. I love you
So many ways

Quote from "Everything Beautiful is Far Away"--Grandaddy

He just finished eating dinner
and stepped outside the cave
to smoke a cigarette he'd made
from rolled up photo paper.
they were pictures of things back on earth.
he looked out on the greyish white expanse
of un-inhabited terrain he now called home.
he'd seen plenty of mirages
and imaginery visitors up until then
so he wasn`t sure what to think
when he saw swans
and they were wading on the shores
of a pale white lake
that he'd never seen there before.
and it was quite beautiful
and it was far away cause
everything beautiful is far away.

he knew he was as good as gone but gone
was somewheres he really didn`t mind going to
since the shuttle had crashed many years had passed
and the pictures of his loved ones
that he drew on the wall of the cave had finally faded.
he put out his smoke and proceeded toward the lake
repeating to himself
'everything beautiful is far away'.

This hits me hard for many reasons: I can relate it to the place where I grew up, a dirty town full of drugs and gangs and all manner of things I'd rather not have to worry about when all I want to do is go to the park unattended by parents--it was almost empty--and to the place where I am now, a suburb with no soul. I need to go somewhere faster.

TBH, I am more moved by a stunning instrumental like Lenny by SRV, D Minor Blues by Derek Trucks, or Just a Gigolo by Thelonious Monk than any lyrics that I have ever heard

Halé - Broken Sonnet

And now I concede
On the night of this fifteenth song
Of melancholy, of melancholy
And now I will admit in this fourth line
That I love you, that I love you.

I don’t care what they say
I don’t care what they do
‘cause tonight I’ll leave my fears behind
‘cause tonight I’ll be right at your side.

Lie down right next to me
Lie down right next to me
And I will never let go
Will never let go.

The clock on the tv says 8:39 pm
It’s the same, it’s the same
And in this next line
I’ll say it all over again
That I love you, that I love you.

I don’t care what they say
I don’t care what they do
‘cause tonight I’ll leave my fears behind
‘cause tonight I’ll be right at your side.

Lie down right next to me
Lie down right next to me
And I will never let go
Will never let go.

I’ll leave my fears behind
‘cause tonight I’ll be right at your side.

Lie down right next to me
Lie down right next to me
And i will never let go
Will never let go.

But still I see the tears from your eyes
Maybe I’m just not the one for you.

This song may be just a phase, but you should check out the fanvideo featuring FF: Advent Children to really feel the song - Youtube video

Otherwise, anything by Tool is magnificent lyric-wise (Parabola is one of my favs).

It's just seven steps to open every lock on my door.
The thick oak boards would never surrender to anything
Short of .44s blasting at the hinges.
Mistakes never take more than six steps without the world ending
So I can rest assured the locks'll never give, the chains'll never flinch
And no man but God can raise the bolts from the dead
And just for pinch I leave a chair propped under the knob,
Never too certain in this world gone lost
That's why I keep every window locked, latched under key,
The only thing I trust is the forces that fast under me
I know you're wondering what would drive a man to live like this
And what would happen if you accidentally slipped and hit your head?
Lying passed out on the bathroom floor brain leaking
Body weakened as the audience danced for the curtain call
And there is me life flashed before my eyes
Looking back I laugh at times when I cut the telephone lines
I severed all ties shut off the water and power
Sealed off from the steel hearts atop my ivory tower
I look down every now and then and hope that she'll answer my call
But I know she's gone so what's the point of ever leaving at all?
Ever leaving at all
Lock the door on your way out I'm leaving it all
Behind
Goodbye

That's from "Now and Never More (Feat. Input)" by, as almost always, Astronautalis.

Quote from Junior Kimbrough
Meet me in the City

Meet Me while I'm in the city

and see everything is so fine

We'll get together now darling

Oh yes we will

We'll make everything alright

Now Honey don't

Oh Honey don't

Please, Please don't leave me right now baby

Right now, Right now

Oh no no no

You got me baby

You got me darling

You got me where you want me baby

Girl I know you are

Satisfied

Still begging you baby

Don't leave me here

Please, please don't leave me

Right now baby, right now , right now

oh no no no

Read em, and you'll get it.

Many different faces, many bodies walking by
Beautiful and smooth and so young when they die
Soon they will be forgotten and won't ever be seen again
Sometimes you keep them in your mind

Some may be appealing and some other may be not
There are so many they vary from unacceptable to hot
You'll never get to know them, you never will recall their names
You call it sad, but you don't mind

Some are straight and settled in the daylight
Smear face when the rain pours down
I remember the words of the stranger:
"Live fast and you die with a sound"

So that's the story that's the way it has to be
Unless you change your fulsome attitude release your vanity
For we are only mortal and on the day the curtain falls
You'll see me laughing all the time from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XJxwI7-0_4

I lost myself in shapeless oceans
Whose depths concealed more than they showed
Beliefs obscured by mists around them
A legacy they'd been bestowed

Columns of ice paint awkward pictures
Distorted forms that once seemed real
Engulfed inside transparent textures
Billowing curtains as hard as steel

For all the noise filling the landscape
Whispers & cries with no reply
It's quiet here within these boundaries
And thoughts collect like pools of light

CHORUS
My eyes divide the sky
As sirens sound in heaven
My will brings down the moon
And shatters it to pieces

The silence grew inconsequential
The day became a paradigm
A thousand years, a hundred decades
An arbitrary slice of time

I found myself with no companion
Except the salty earth and sky
And suddenly there came my focus
The world around me clarified

(Chorus)

And so I walked in isolation
Hoping solace would cross my path
Ignored the road that lay behind me
And stepped away from the aftermath

I lost myself in shapeless oceans
Whose waters turned from dark to clear
I floated there, a tiny island
With no more doubt, with no more fear

(Chorus) from this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSgnx8DfeWg (the video has nothing to do with it)

There are many more.

Lyrics have no effect on me but to make me laugh or make me angry at who ever wrote them. I either take them to seriously and start criticizing them or I don't take then seriously at all and laugh.

they only way to get me to see any merit at all in the lyrics of a song is to put a story behind it. That's why I like musicals, even Disney movie songs impart about 10x more impact then a song of similar quality that stands alone, regardless of genre.
