Egyptian Rat Slap rules

Also known as Egyptian Rat Screw, Slap, Peanut Butter, and about a gazillion other names.
Alright, this thread was inspired due to a couple games I played of this card game today. I was playing with a group of acquaintances, and they had the oddest set of rules. Normally I play with these rules;
Make a dot, and draw lines parallel to and equal distance from the dot. A player's hands have to stay behind the line unless they're placing a card.
No rings/bracelets
Cards have to be flipped outwards (away from you so you can't see it) and from either the side or upper right hand corner.
If you slap and it turns out there isn't a sandwich or pair, burn a card.
You have to play as fast as you can
However, in addition to the normal rules the people I was playing against had;
Slaps have to be soft enough not to make a sound if you hit the empty table
You can't dive for the cards; you have to slap from straight up, rather than a sort of angled slap
If you place a card when it's not your turn, burn it and the card on top of your deck
They also didn't have the rule about playing fast.
In my opinion the added rules of soft slaps, and diving for the cards kinda ruined the game. I still won all the games we played, but something I love about the game is how competitive you can get while playing it. The playing slow was also really annoying, because not only did it take a long time but the errors (people forgetting to slap and there ending up being like 5 sandwiches or pairs in a pile) that make the game fun weren't there either.
So, what about you guys? What are your rules when you play? Have you ever played before? Do you like the game? What's your favorite part?
Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?

Whoa, you and your friends have really specific rules. When I play, we usually just follow the normal rules (paying cars on royals, burning, etc), so I guess your games are far more intense and serious 😃
I do enjoy this game, though (card games in general, anyways...), but I'm not particularly good at it. My favorite part would have to be the thrill of slapping, especially when we're going fast 😀

I think the whole soft slap and extra rules would ruin the game. One of the reasons ERS is my favorite card game is because its really fast paced and aggressive. When you have a group of friends all trying to get those slaps it can get really intense. If you had to worry about how hard you slapped, it would take out some of the fun and intensity of going for the slaps.
