It's a bit hard to find good deep house songs. So I'd like to know some of your favorite deep house songs and how you got introduced to the genre.

Well I heard someone talking about some deep house songs and I decided to check them out, fell in love with the genre and so on...

My favorite songs are:

Mr V - Just Dance (Quentin Harris mix)
Maya Jane Coles - Hummingbird
Tracey Thorn - Why Does The Wind? (Morgan Geist Remix)
Jose James - Desire (Moodymann mix)
The Deep - Dom Dom Jump

I'm pretty sure I've posted most of what's on your list in the "listening now" or "songs here" threads over the years. 🤣

Deep House itself is a very vague term, tbh. There's many sides to it, ranging from the soulful to jazzy to the more progressive, so I'm not quite sure what you're after exactly.

Anyways, I'll link labels rather than producers or tracks.

Buzzin Fly is probably a good label to start with. Considered the quintessential label in London when it comes to the genre. Started by Ben Watt (husband of Tracey Thorn and the other half of the legendary Everything But The Girl). There are some old free mixes on the site, and they have a well stocked store if you're into vinyl. Top label, overall, though more laid back.

Another good choice is Dial, and sister label Laid. While Dial is more tech-house oriented, Laid is more soulful, Detroit-inspired. Both are very decent. Their websites aren't the most helpful, but search for their MySpace pages and then head on down to Beatport.

Mule Musiq is a Japanese-German label (head offices in both countries) that caters to the more eclectic, jazzy sides of electronica. They have quite the catalog of very well-respected producers from across the globe. Like Laid and Dial, their website isn't the most full featured, but should prove a good starting point. Search for releases under their Mule Electronic sub-label. This album by my favorite electro-tranny, Terre Thaemlitz (aka Sprinkles) is a must-have for any deep-house aficionado, imho. Also check out stuff by Kuniyuki Takahashi and Koss if you're more into jazz inspired lounge-house.

Plastic City is another good one, if a tad mainstream at times. They've got a ton of artists/producers signed to them, some decent, some not so decent. Decent site and store.
