Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin

(I noticed that there weren't any threads in the manga page on m-u, so I made this one for general discussion... if this is the wrong place let me know. I also can't figure out what the /m and /a tags are for/how they are used, so I'd appreciate it if someone could enlighten me)

For those who don't know, The Origin is a manga adaptation of the legendary anime, Mobile Suit Gundam, which revolutionized the anime industry (and the "robot anime" genre) in 1979, paving the way for such classic series as Super Dimensional Fortress: Macross, and Armored Trooper VOTOMs. Gundam's fame need not be extolled to anyone here: it has permeated nearly every facet of Japanese culture and remains one of the (if not the) most well-known icons of Japanese culture to the outside world, along side Samurai, Ninjas and kimonos.

The 1979 series is viewed largely as the product of directory Yoshiyuki Tomino's talent. And while I don't wish to downplay his involvment (Tomino created the world of the Universal Century, after all) history has largely ignored the equally important role Yasuhiko Yoshikazu played in the creation of this ancient anime epic.

The semi-biographical gag manga Gundam Sousei tells the tale of Mobile Suit Gundam's production, casting Tomino as the "hot-blooded emotional genius" archetype and Yoshikazu as the "cool-headed intellectual genius." It may be best to think of the two men in these terms. A man of immense talent, Yoshikazu is no less important to Gundam's origins than Tomino himself--The Origin is his version of the story. It features absolutely breathtaking art, and re-tells the story of Mobile Suit Gundam with sublime grace, deftly capturing the most memorable moments of the anime and expanding upon them, adding even greater depth to the already-rich universe and already-beloved characters. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin is an immaculately-drawn master work, deserving to be read by all fans of the medium--be they fans of the Gundam franchise or not.

In Autumn 2011, Bandai announced that Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin would be animated, with further information regarding the project to be released in 2012. The format of this anime has not yet been determined, but mecha fans across the globe are greatly anticipating further news.

I'm looking for 1 or 2 knowledgable fans of the Mobile Suit Gundam anime with a high level of proficiency with the English language who would be willing to work as proof-readers/QCers for the English-language scanlations. If you're interested, post in this thread. --Red Shoulders

i hear some whispers about bandai not doing more anime/manga... this gets me by surprice! i hope this anime will see light.

Er... I think you're a bit confused. Bandai only shut down their North American distribution subsidiary. They're still producing anime (and are still an industry giant).
