There has been talk of terraforming in many anime and manga.. Many scifi novels contain talk of it.. NASA has hold many debates on the consequences as well as the possibility of actually being able to terraform..

Though humanity currently does not have the ability or means to terraform a planet, it might just be possible in the future.. Mars is the most likely candidate for terraforming as it has many similarities to Earth..

What is your opinion on terraforming in the future..? Discuss..

P.S.: Terraforming means according to Wikipedia: *The terraforming (literally, "Earth-shaping") of a planet, moon, or other body is the hypothetical process of deliberately modifying its atmosphere, temperature, or ecology to be similar to those of Earth in order to make it habitable by humans.

The first generation will probably just be biospheres instead of terraforming. Biospheres are easier to construct and are self-sustaining, so they don't have to so big as to cover the whole planet. Terraforming will probably only start being done when the demand for space involves a large portion of the planet, and probably after some initial settlements.

Also, terraforming will require some kind of faster, cheaper and safer method of transportation of materials. The creation of a suitable atmosphere would probably be the first step, since that would protect things from being destroyed by space debris and solar radiation/plasma storms. Afterwards, they will probably have to start filling the planet with other elements and compounds such as ozone, air (oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, etc.), and water. The ground itself may have to be reformed through chemical processes so it is suitable for plants. If and when they succeed with filling in the greenery, the other stuff such as animals, buildings, etc. would be brought in. Immigrations may also begin at this point.

That's my view of the process... what about you, Dr. Love? You should at least answer your own topics =/

Well, I think it would be great.. 🙂 Though I'm afraid of the possibility that Mars will be the new Earth and all the rich people will live there, where as the old Earth will be just slums.. >.< Don't want that to happen.. But I do think that there's a high chance that humans will expand to space..

Well it's a long way off, but hopefully it will be possible. But I find it more plausible that we would be able to create "fake" gravity on space stations first. And when thats possible we can just live in space 😀

I think that I am in a museum when that happens.

a few months ago some of my grademates from the space engineering dep', and biotech dep' in my school (supported by NASA) went on tv talking about the possibility of life on mars. heres the video ^_^
basically, in the interview, the guys presenting their project, for NASA, of a new micro-organism that will be able to live in space(yeah, i go to a school that does things like that...). they explain on the experiments they had, presenting "marsian-like ground" and talking about humans on mars after the organism. so what do u guys think?

(btw even tho they dont look like it, they r the space geeks. every dep' in my school got a nick name:
space engineering:space geeks
communication (my): media deliquents
art: art freaks
the biothech's r invisible...) 😀

the thread i made about it:

ah.. it looks like the video got deleted... 🤢

Polite bump.

I guess it's time to resurrect this thread after that article about how water has been discovered on the moon. 🤨 Terraforming would be certainly possible for humanity, but I don't think it'll be for a long while. Also, we need to keep ourselves alive 'till then. With the rate we're going, this planet will be done for in 500 years.

I think it would be nice to live another planet with different ecology systems (different plants, different animals, different breathtaking wonders of nature!).

Yeah probably will happen.

I probably wont be alive to see it though. I'll be a goner by the time they get around to that I think.
