the manga is good i was caught interest to read it when first time discovered however after sometime i found it began boring, the jokes is too repetetitive for me,all character just uninteresting anymore
the author apparently used the jokes too much and eventually became "forced" where we found all any jokes actually is not funny and you just stare blinkly see what the heck are they doing? seriously i need read another more funny gag manga, this manga is lame!
yup lame but actually can to expand to more interesting.the Plot!
yes this manga has plot but just used for every certain arc only and it not gripped anymore
if the author can pull a plot which able to a draw great change in this manga universe it might will make the manga interesting anymore
what's that?
an actual plot not temporary story because in the own arc, story moving stand alone in own storyline permanently where characters actually has goal

it's a gag manga, well honestly i found it boring in chapter 1-10 but when i caould finally get a grip from the characters i found it truly funny..
it's a light reading, but sometimes you will find drama from every character's past back those past make a back up for more gag in future (example: the twins lol)
i dont understand why pebble hate it so much, i found it funny and hilarous, good enough for entertainment.. especially for those who enjoys comedy genre, i'd love to recommend this.. the chemistry between main characters is well balance too, even though the story is to cliche (like the idealistic friendship, a touching story about high school, etc) at least it doesnt too much (which sometimes make me sick in some other mangas) and the comedy, just like i said before.. is hilarious!!
what i really hope is this series wont drop because the senpais has gone now lol, and in the arc (in their third year) will be more fun than before

start reading it because the curiousity about what people says about this manga, stop reading it after i try to get interested and reach around to chapters 100 or so. lol. i failed to find the funny or the cool things in this manga. agreed with Pebble, the characters makes me feel its being forced to be a somewhat unique or entertaining. although the art is nice, but the story is not interesting, and the gag is not make me laugh or simply entertained. It's just like a fail copy of Gintama..

A good story

A good manga or any type of story by no means wheather it be the plot is simple or a three year old can understand it makes no difference. For instance Dr. suess, one can't say that his storys arent one of a kind along with being interesting to all ages for it's uses of things kids unerstand as well as the level of literary inventiveness it achieves. As a manga asuming that the artwork is good, as is the case that's already say.. worth half it's rating. to make it nearly a 9, which is what i say it is. seeing that even if the plot is fairly simple yet none the less interesting as well as emotionally enthralling, able to evoke empathy from it's readers as well as other emotions that are definably apparent. conveying an emotion you can reach through diferent aspects of a story one becomes attatched drawn in. Being able to to do so at a level readers can relate to, Sket Dance doesn't fall short in any sense of a good story. Being able to win an award if you havn't come to be able to understand atleast the level of work it is credited despite a diference in taste and preference it's quality you can still appreciate as a manga or story, if you failed to recognize all these things then you failed to either read enough of this work or you simply lack the means to understand Manga or perhaps all literature and the depth reachable. unable to grasp past the shallow.

Am I seriously the only one who doesn't find this manga funny? O_o

I've read all released chapters (with a lot of dropping it then picking it up), watched most episodes of the anime, I really tried to enjoy this series, since so many people seem to deem it 'one of the best', BUT I'm sorry I really really don't find it funny...

It lacks depth, authenticity. A lot of characters tend to irritate me and they seem somewhat 'forced'. As if the author made characters whose 'unique' personality should have been hilarious, but failed to give them a soul, to make them 'work'. So instead they're irritating and shallow... And boring. -_-

Bossun especially can be really annoying (not good for the protagonist! )
Himiko is steadily becoming a typical cliché shounen heroine -> tough ex-delinquent but really sweet deep down-blah-blah-crap! Of course she is only really happy when Bossun tells her that she cooks well, that she would be a great bride, or when she is doing the friggin cleaning! (give me a break!)
Switch is more interesting, but his persona is a bit inconsistent and appears sometimes involuntarily awkward-awkward instead of deliberately funny-awkward. The whole arc about his brother particularly was a huge WTF. The idea is not bad, but it really came out of the blue and the execution was, again, forced. The result was a really sudden tragedy arc, so sudden in fact, and so incoherent with the atmosphere of the manga, that I had a real hard time taking it seriously.
I'm not gonna list everything I dislike, but still. This manga felt lifeless to me. It felt like a huge pile of shounen clichés. (which can be good if well-executed, with some personal touch but which, in this case, failed to come alive)

Of course it's not all bad. There were some funny chapters/episodes, and I really like the chemistry teacher for instance, or that other teacher with all the weird games.
My review probably looks unnecessarily harsh, but that's because all the other comments are extremely flattering. I wanted to balance that, somehow. Of course Sket dance is doubtlessly mildly entertaining, if you're looking for a light read.

But on the whole I find this series mediocre, and since I have a hard time getting interested in comedies that I don't find 'awesome' (and there are a lot of these, I'm not that hard to please >_<), it's not for me.

I was disappointed. Sket dance is probably gonna go in my 'dropped list' very soon. -_-

final word? EXTREMELY OVERRATED.

Really entertaining

This manga is amazing. It's easy to compare it to Gintama since they both involve three groups of people assisting others mixed in with various "random" events, but that's where the differences end. Sket Dance has a cast of characters who easily stand on their own and the issues they deal with when things get serious are surprisingly complex for a gag manga. This series has laughter, tears, romance, and sometimes even death. All of this is set to a school backdrop and provides tons of entertainment. Coupled with the recent anime adaption, this manga is seriously going places and I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys comedy/slice of life.

Heaps of praise above aside, like any gag manga, sometimes the gags fall flat. Usually the manga is very funny, but when it does fail, it fails hard. Those times where it falls flat though are thankfully far and few in between, but I'd be remiss if I didn't at least mention that it does happen.

My suggestion is to read until you get to the first serious arc
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
It involves why Switch talks through a computer
and if you still don't enjoy the series after that, then you probably never will. I was on the fence until I read that particular part and then realized that I had found something special.

I absolutely love it!!!! It's so funny! I litterally get back from class and read a chapter or two and it makes me so happy. I don't know how many times I started cracking up over this. I love all the random references to things. It's so refreshing, I never really know what's going to happen.

This is my favorite ongoing Shounen Jump series, with brilliant humor, a great cast, clever plots and insightful dramatic arcs. It feels like it has lost some freshness in these last volumes, but it's still one of the best shounen series around IMHO.

I can't express how many different levels this manga hits. Its funny, serious, endearing, and clever. I don't think I've ever found a manga that made me respect the author so much. I don't think that you can really get a good grasp on the series in 2 chapters but after a few you should see it for what it is. I, personally, can't see why you wouldn't like it but...

I don't read Gintama but people say its just like it. From the reasons they give all I can say is that similar yes but not a rip off. I think its pretty amazing that this is surviving in a mainly battle driven magazine.

The characters are diverse and the chapters are equally as scattered. Even so I can say that this manga has given me numerous reasons to reread it. So many good chapters but all in their own right.
The only thing I can see that might discourage people is the length. The chapters might feel long because it is heavily dialogue driven. I admit that put me off in the beginning but the more endearing chapters pull you along well enough.

So, if you are starting off and are having trouble getting into it skip a chapter or two till you find one that gets you; chances are there is one for you.

I just hope it grows in popularity so we can get caught up with the releases. Thank you to the Scanulators that are doing it anyway.
