Definitely has to be a gag manga.

Sorry. I am a masochist (in terms of things I end up reading) and usually pick up shoujo for two reasons:
1) I'm in the mood for good shoujo. And/Or...
2) I'm in the mood for bad horrific "romantic" shoujo, that's so rage-inducing, I just have to react to it.

Most of the time, I can tell whether it's one or the other. But the true gems are the ones that I have no clue about whether they're gonna be good, or painfully bad. The in-betweens are easy enough to forget so I have no problems with those.

But this one. Man, this one, I just have to agree that it must be a gag-manga. I'm sorry, I just couldn't take anything seriously, and I ended up enjoying it in the beginning, not for the romance, or even the smut (if it can even be called that), but just the sheer idiocy involved.

My reaction in the beginning mostly was, WTH is this?! Hahahaha this has to be a joke, right?!?

Do not take this seriously, people. You're gonna give yourself an aneurism. Chapter 1 practically shows (literally and figuratively) the heroine having a screw loose. Like, literally, an actual screw rolls onto the floor and she gets a friggin' fan-girl nosebleed upon meeting the male lead.

CHAPTER 1
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
She uses her genius inventing skills mostly to find a way to make Hajime-kuuun, love of her life, prince and beloved knight-in-shining-dark-armour fall in love with her. (This is, in no way, a good thing if you really think about it, because consent is important people, but, what the hell, it's not meant to be taken seriously.)

Said inventions mostly fail because we find out, surprise surprise that the male lead has always been in love with her all along. This "misunderstanding" is resolved quickly enough with--drum-roll please--the power of true love and true love's kiss
.

What happens next, you ask? Well, they're in an established relationship that seems to be going nowhere, for reasons.

Although I tried my best not to take it seriously after the beginning, where we're supposed to get really into the story, the humour is pretty hit-miss-miss-major miss like what even-miss-hit-hit-miss.

Got tired of it, because, I couldn't get invested enough in the story. I got too tired of having to keep myself from eye-rolling like a champ.

Hmm, I guess it can be perceived as "sweet" at certain parts, moments which get wrecked almost immediately by the hit-miss humour.

The plot is driven mostly by random gag devices (basically making fun of the many many many shoujo cliches) used to try and break them apart.

Besides the very pretty and cute artistry. As well as the detailed smut scenes.. It's very very juvenile.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
starts with a girl inventor obsessed with her bodyguard.. She's had a crush on him the whole time.. Something brings out his confession that he always has loved her too. The rest is just a series of events of them trying to have sex everywhere while things keep breaking it up. Last chapter a rich girl that they owed money to wanted the bf so the bf complied until he called her dad and was off the hook.

Terrible.

The first chapter wasn't so bad, afterall the summary was what made me want to read it. However, it was only downhill from there. I'm not going to blame it on the cliches. It's hard to find a manga nowadays without the typical shoujo cliches, but a lot of them can pull it off. This manga could not do that.
It was funny at first, but it just got more and more frustrating and there was absolutely no development. And it's a shame because I really did have a bit of a crush on Hajime and I liked his character. Also, Shizuka is a bloody inventor! (Which was really interesting in my opinion) She's suppose to be intelligent, but she's still a dimwit! I could handle her being naive but she is one of the most moronic shoujo characters I have ever encountered.
It's really a shame, perhaps if the series was shorter (maybe 3 to 5 chapters) then I would not be so disappointed. However, it's long, it's anticlimactic, it's repetitive and just poorly executed. Who knew a smutty manga could be so on par with a children's story. Terrible!

Do not read this manga unless you have absolutely nothing to do at all. Not trying to be rude, but the mangaka seems like he's spreading stupid virus to his readers.

Especially when

Every shoujo cliche you can imagine is put in this and blown way out of proportion, and thats why I enjoyed this manga far more than I would have. Everything, from the way Shizuka falls in love with Hajime (and quite literally becomes a 'screw loose', haha), to the Hajime's over-the-top protectiveness of Shizuka is absolutely hilarious. If you like something that makes fun of shoujo cliches then I'd say this is it. I didn't take it seriously and I ended up enjoying it.

I find this manga very cute. Its like any other Shoujo manga but that's what people are usually reading, well mostly girls, like myself. bigrazz The art is just adorable, especially how the artist drew Hajime. He just makes my heart melt. Suzuka is just plain old ditsy and ridiculous, but shes very funny. The story runs a bit quick though.

I just started reading this, i just finished the first 3 chapters for volume 1 and throughout every page i go " EEK! EEP! OMG! AHH! " because it was soo utterly CUTE and SWEET! With the daydreaming little girl, and the cool sexy boyfriend.

Honestly I think this is way better than the other Shoujos i've read. Maybe except for Hadashi de Bara wo Fume.

Oh i can't seem to find the rest of the chapters/volumes for Hatsumei Princess. Is it even out translated yet?

I disagree with the previous comment. I liked it very much. I didn't think the heroine was overly ditzy or anything. It's shoujo, what can you expect? The author must have drawn it with good lighthearted romance and comedy in mind, and that's exactly what it is. Shizuka's inventions and how she uses them are really funny, for one. I know that some stories out there are more worthwhile than this one in terms of storyline, but this is also a pretty fun read when you're tired of all those tears and drama.

Recommended for readers who like comedy and cutesy romance. For me, I'm definitely watching this. ^^

BTW, I really liked Hajime's way of "proposing". Hehe. ^^

Art is cute. And okay, so the guy is kinda hot in that "I've got glasses and a pointed stare" kinda way. The girl: utterly ridiculous. Not endearing at all. The situations are mind-numbing. The plot is straight out of a clogged toilet. If I wanted pre-pubescent make-out scenes, I would've watched Degrassi or something.

I'm scared to give this one a try, but probably will eventually. The summary makes it sound like they threw papers with random words into a hat and just pulled something out. Wouldn't the prime minister's son be the one who needs a bodyguard? o.o;
I won't rate it until I've checked it out though.

Hatsumei Princess is a hilarious, romantic shoujo manga that I really enjoyed and recommend.

The main characters have developed well in the first chapter alone; Suzuka and Hajime are unique, compared to other romantic shoujo's. The female main character Suzuka is a young, genius inventor, while Hajime, the male main character, is the son of Japan's prime minister (and is also Suzuka's body guard). Though, the characters don't stray too far from other typical shoujo characters--they eventually do fall in love with one another.

Hatsumei Princess's plot is somewhat predictable, but with a fast pace. I expect it to develop further than just a romance between the main characters.

Suzuka! Don't lose tooo many screw in your head (for Hajime<3).
