Description
Tengujin is a story about two twin brothers who live in a slightly futuristic Japan. Eastern and Western Japan are splitting apart and have formed two warring nations. In this "idiot adult's world", many social issues press on society and drove it to war. Gods of the world, mainly tengu, influence the start and end of the events that lead to war such as Japan splitting into two, so the younger twin, Mozuku, desires to end the idiotic war that the adults started and with his older brother, Shinonome, meets with the God of the West (Sai).

Zanouka, the second story in Tengujin, is about the former incarnations of Mozuku and Shinonome. Mozuku is a young bard who is the inheriting son of a feudal lord of a dead mountain with only poor people remaining on it. He keeps a rigid, realistic perspective on life and refuses to believe in things like tengu. While cleaning the tengu's small shrine, his beautiful voice attracts the attention of the tengu of the mountain, Tondonbou (Shinonome's former incarnation), who hides half of his face behind a mask. After meeting the tengu, Mozuku sets to seeking him out again, wanting to see what was hidden behind that mask. Less...

I like the story because it is very interesting but i had a hard time understanding it because of the mythology thing and so. Also the book is not finish yet so I'm definitely gonna update this comment in the future but for now I'm gonna hit the general idea.
I think that the story is indeed very confusing and needs rereading. This story entails about Gods and their past blah blah blah. which is ok for me to follow until chapter 2.5 and the last chapter(for now).
Chapter 2.5 illustrate this flashback of shii-chan about mozoku asking for the taichou-sama's wish then mozoku went near to Tondonbou.
Then in chapter 1 shii-chan said that he is the reincarnation of Taichou so clearly he is not Tondonbou. but there are still some conflicts so i wish to read more about the past story. So i will be fully enlightened but this manga is on a brief pause. *sigh*
i do agree that the artist of this manga is weird and very unusual as she said but i think it is good thing because she have this huge imagination that has this potential of being a good manga so I'm very sad that she says that she is not good enough!! i think she needs more confidence and if she gets more confidence, I'm sure that the way she comes across will be better.
P.S. It's kinda lacking at the love part

as I read I think Tondonbou isn't shinonome's reincarnation I think shinonome's reincarnation is the girl in a rear chapter 2.5 because in the manga, the god of the west told that "I'll awaken todonbou too" that mean Todonbou still not appear in the time yet.
it's great

it's a bit complicated so i´m glad i read a book about japanese mythology...But what it's more difficult, i think, is to remeber all that names without getting confused, so many people rencarnated and i'm so bad remembering names.Anyway, it's a good read and i so expect Shinonome's wish to come true hehe.
I will keep reading, i really want to know how things will turn out.

This manga may be the best ever by YUMEKA Sumomo. Elegant art tags along with a fantastic plot. It may be not easy to follow for English readers, but this story worths a try!

This is a really gorgeous comic by Sumomo Yumeka. The first story (Tengujin) focuses on two twin brothers, one of which is a little eccentric (Shinonome), and the other who is a bit hot-headed (Mozuku). The comic almost has a feeling of being a social commentary of modern Japan in a fantasy setting, with issues like the decreasing birth rate and the aging population being brought up throughout the comic, as well as the foolishness of adults who fight at their own leisure. Still, it has Sumomo's lingering romantic qualities as well, with the older twin kissing the younger twin's cheek, and the God of the West (Sai or Sacchan) being a complete flirt who wants humans to devolve to their monkey origins. It's comical, has shounen-ai undertones, and also brings up social issues very tightly related to Japan. For non-Japanese readers, the Shinto references may be a bit difficult to keep up with, especially with the references to so many daitengu and their stories as well, but otherwise, it's a very enjoyable read.
The second story (Zanouka) is a little more serious, involving a light-hearted bard (Mozuku -- he's the former incarnation of the Mozuku from the previous story) and the tengu (Tondonbou -- one of the reincarnations of Taichou, the same person as Shinonome from the previous story) who protects the mountain. The bard becomes infatuated with the tengu, and desires to protect him from others, including a monk who wants to become the tengu's human master to control him. It also has tender BL undertones, and includes Sumomo's usual gentle story-telling and soft, elegant art.
