Description
Tadayasu Sawaki is a young man with a very strange ability: he can talk with bacteria/microscopic beings. He enrolls at Tokyo Agriculture College, where people seem to be just as abnormal as he is...

From Gekkoukan High Scans:
Meet Sawaki Tadayasu, second son of yeast preparation suppliers, whom is forced to go to an agricultural university and continue the family business. He has the unique ability to see microbes. He and his friend, Kei, are taken as students to the fermentation-process obsessed Itsuki-sensei. This manga follows Sawaki as he tries to make his way through university as discreetly as possible…which is pretty impossible if you’re as unique as he is.

Won the Grand Prize for the 2008 Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize.

Look at that worm's face!! by peppermintmoose on September 4th, 2009, 8:10pm

I first saw the anime perhaps about a year ago, I remember being so disappointed when it ended. I wanted more. I'm so happy to have found the first volume of the manga. Personally, I loved the art style. Ishikawa really knows how to set up the scenes, and I find it interesting how he uses reflective surfaces in his art. Overall, this is a great series, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a comedy.

really good manga (translate it!) by Gaspardrow on July 30th, 2009, 7:00pm

Since I saw the anime I can say that the history is good. And the characters and art are decent. If a translator read this, well, you know now what you have to do!! (Translate it please!?)
(And about the genere: its not wrong, many manga are simply too extreme with their themes, this manga is not the case and I like it)

More anime, some scanlation? by Decel on December 27th, 2008, 9:23pm

Add me to the list of people who were pleasantly surprised by the anime and wish a scanlation group would pick it up (from the start? or at least from where the anime ended?)

Very compelling (if broken) characters. I do hope that there is development (I'm very anti-Rumiko Takahashi in terms of ending a series in the middle of nowhere)

Sometimes... by Torje on December 23rd, 2008, 7:04pm

Sometimes you just find a story that's strange and compelling, something completely different from the usual, that's just clicks.
That's is what Moyashimon is.

Since I've worked at a university for two years it's easier for me to understand all the bacteria facts that get's thrown in into the serie, but you don't got to have a master in biochemistry to understand it.
It's simple basic facts.

But do not think of this as a nerdy manga, the microbe facts are few, the story is compelling (get's really good around volume 3-4) and the characters are so too!

Hopefully some translator group will pick this one up and make my day.

SO CUTE!!! by Luv4Kawaii on September 3rd, 2008, 5:22am

the story is rrrrrriiiiiiiiiiillllllllllllllllllllllli lovable!! Hilarious, cute(bacteria), a ABSOLUTE must read!!! You'd think it's be rili boring with the theme of bacteria and the cover doesn't look 2 cute if ur lik me and lik shoujo, which i found a real turn off, but im glad i watched the anime with my sis. My fav scene has 2 be when haruka(i think that was her name...the gothic rich girl) got drunk and started scratching the poor dude's face off...xD

microbiology by quisquam on March 28th, 2008, 1:43am

i first thought "bacteria, what the heck, this must be really booring." but it turned out to be a really great anime. i just love it. the thing is, im currently studying biology so everytime i come across a lactobacillus in my studies now i have to think of these funny little figures in the anime. i bet no-one else in my yr has so much fun learning about microbes! and professor itsuki is just awesome, so crazy, nearly beats my prof for plant evolution. hehe bigrazz

I agree! by Akujin on March 14th, 2008, 4:02am

Considering the theme and story, it's again one of these typical "damn that story is stupid, nothing good can come out of this", but really now, I think we have all learned our lesson ;)

The anime was amazing, but as said very short, and I too hope for a second season. Meanwhile, it looks like a scanlation group has started to scanlate it, I'm going to take a look at it later, but I'm sure I wont be dissapointed (rarely have I ever read a manga that was bad in comparison to the anime) I just hope they catch up with the anime soon enough!
