Description
From Seven Seas:
Being a girl is harder than it looks... For Hazumu, this couldn't be more true, because just the other day, she...was a he.
Shunned by the girl of his dreams, Hazumu loses himself in the mountains and is promptly squashed by an oncoming space ship. The alien inside, feeling guilty, rebuilds Hazumu's body...but as the wrong gender!
Now Hazumu must learn how to be the girl his parents always wanted while dealing with the trials and tribulations of being caught in a love triangle between two girls--his childhood friend, Tomari, and Yasuna, the girl who rejected him but is now strangely attracted to him/her!
I decided id post this after reading only the first chapter and see how my opinion changes after i was done. And after reading i have only one thing to say...bullcrap! Fine, ill believe an alien ship landed on him and killed him. Ill also believe the remade him but couldnt keep his gender. ill even accept the wierd ass alien worldwide apology. BUT ILL BE F@$&d if you think ill believe that the most important thing the news has to cover is whether or not the government will officially change his registration to a girl. ALIENS JUST LANDED AND THATS WHAT YOU REPORT. they gave a worldwide broadcast proclaiming they exist and people are like "megh, hey did you hear that guy turned into a girl?". Screw that, i better see some damn reations to aliens later or im gonna be pissed.
After watching the anime, Ihave to admit I wasn't expecting much from this. Two volumes in, I have two things to say:
1.) There's a lot of in-depth exploration of all kinds of emotions and ... personality traits. From the question of the [both social and personal] legitimacy of same-sex love, to addressing the importance of being decisive, nothing seems above exploration for this title. 2.) I know it's just a plot device, and probably really not intended as anything other than that, but Hazumu's change from male to female cheapens the significance of the same-sex relationships in the story -- like, for anyone put off by the thought of a lesbian relationship, just think of it as "well, she was a guy most of her life." It feels like a cheap way to make the story more generally socially acceptable.
Great title though. Not top-tier brilliance, but definitely worth a read.
writing wise, it's more of a 6.5, while the art is nothing special. But I think the very concept of this series is broken. Not to mention, I had to trudge through this series to make it to the end.
Here's some reasons as to why: - the girls around him suddenly have a different sexual orientation - gender is a big part of identity. It'd be as if someone turned you into something not human - its rather dumb that the aliens would have the technology to regrow, as they said they did, but couldn't recreate a penis, yet took the time to give him rather large breasts, ovaries, and change his insides(current sex change doesn't anything that extensive). Not to mention, not simply running him through the machine again to restructure his body, the way he did after the initial accident. - only in manga would parents react that well to something that traumatic - since gender is a core part of identity. the girl rejected his true self. - remember that his sex change was involuntary. I actually asked someone to think about this: -Me- you think you wouldn't care if someone performed sex change surgery on you? -Friend- fuck i would, it would destroy my life and i would be wanting to kill myself.
Also I read the wiki page to try to get a better understanding of how someone could think so lightly of the subject; Why would the world knowing(but not really knowing you or ever caring again) deter someone from wanting to return to normal. If anything you'd get sympathizers.
And it's rather wrong of him to think that a relationship between girls wouldn't be sexually charged either.
This is one of the most interesting mangas have read, the author clearly touched on some important questions about the nature of love and the complex emotions of humans... My one regret is that it was not longer. Again, I highly reccomend this to anyone looking for a good read.
Read most of it online - bought the final volume in english. The manga feels so much deeper than the anime (watched some and didn't like it - felt fake and acted). The artwork and character expressions are very emotive within this manga, I liked the character development and how various issues were tackled. I'd give it a high rating because I attached well to the characters, it gave me a fuzzy warm feeling reading it and they felt very human.
Just like everyone says, the manga is much more enjoyable than the anime, although the anime is enjoyable too, but not as much. Very interesting story and plot. @ animus: If you actually read more than a few chapters, you might know why exactly she didnt want to have a relationship with him. Dont make the same mistake as I did, saying that a manga is lame before reading it to the end while reading halfway and thinking; Hey, maybe this manga is pretty good, after all!
I Absolutly Love this Manga! I also like the anime that goes with it, but must admit that it does a poor job compared to the manga. I definatly recommend this manga for anyone looking for a good, intresting and romantic read.
The start it's a little weird but it becomes very interesting. Unfortunatetly, I couldn't read this manga to it's end but I enjoyed up to vol. 4. One thing, there is an anime base on this manga but they changed a lot of things in the anime. I found the manga much better than the anime.
That's so stupid. If someone has a crush on someone else, regardless of gender you shouldn't refuse them and be like "I like you so much, but you're a guy. Sorry!" Stupid.
manga i think is awesome o0o0o i really like it art is fantastic and good and interesting plot well i cant lie shoujo ai = awesome
btw the anime is rather bad i think art is good for anime but it doenst follow the manga very strict on the important things and well i just got bored with the kashimashi anime i think its really crappy for some reason... anime feels empty and shallow (i know i know this is almost allways the case when u compare manga and anime But here its a stronger feeling of SHaLLow) but manga is awesome
