Yea, UGH.
One thing: The fking Melodrama** I can't stand it. PERIOD. I've seen so many melodramas before, despite my general distaste for them. But by god, Vampire Knight is a cut above all the rest. Most of the emotional conflicts never made sense to me, and the way the characters dealt with these conflicts even more so.
Also, I am very disappointed because I actually liked it in the beginning and saw that it had so much potential for a decent soap opera story. But no, it spiraled down into a convoluted mess that made ill use of its extensive cast.
Oh yeah, the Love Triangle is flat out ridiculous. The dynamics of their relationship felt so weird to me. Also, at least choose a goddamn man Yuki! Who the hell would be in love with two men at the same time?! (You could love, yes, but NOT be IN LOVE with both). Jesus, at least Bella Swan chose ONE guy. Yuki didn't, and that really disgusted me to an extent. Despite being boring characters IMO, I actually fell some sort of pity for both Kaname and Zero.
On the flip side though, this manga has some good qualities, although these didn't raise my opinion of the series at all.
Art is gorgeous:: simply put, Vampire Knight has one of the most aesthetically pleasing art I have ever seen in shoujo manga. I could just shut my brain off, miss all the annoying plot going on and only admire the beauty of the pages.
Dark portrayal of Vampires:: Well yeah, in my own opinion, the manga's portrayal of the vampire is quite dark and twisted: the way I like. But of course, this wasn't as consistent as it should've been.
OKay, enough of my rant. All in all, Vampire Knight was a glaring disappointment. Although I disliked it very much, it wasn't a total failure. It may be turned me off but of course it's understandable that others would like it.
