After a heated argument with her mother, Keito runs away from home without knowing where to go. When she helps an old woman to carry her bags home, the woman offers to put her up in one of her rooms. Keito accepts and starts to pick up the pieces of her life. When she's not drawing her own comic, which features a black jazz singer named Angie, the young woman works at a record shop. That's where she meets and falls in love with Niki, an attractive trumpeter in a funk band. They sleep with each other. Unfortunately for Keito, Niki then explains that she's not interested in a serious relationship, but Keito is not willing to give up that easily...

Eh. ngl the drawing style really put me off -- when the characters are facing you, it kinda looks like they don't have any noses, just two small dots. It was weird and off-putting. On top of that the characters are unlikeable (imo) and the storyline wasn't very captivating, so I just didn't finish it.

I realize yuri tends to move quickly, but the main character knew her love interest for five minutes and then suddenly she proclaimed her love and turned into a creepy stalker. I'm used to unrealistic romances, but this was just too over-the-top.

Not a masterpiece but not bad either. Nothing feels generic and/or cliche in Free Soul but there aren't any life changing and/or heart wrenching moments either. Like the art style used, it's light and "free-flowing". Basically, it's a light read.

You won't probably be moved to tears or anything of that sort but, after reading it all, it just might put you into a pensive mood. Nothing extreme but just enough for you to not simply dismiss it after you're through with it.

For me, most of the parts that I like are from the protagonist's monologues. Also, the characters are interesting but not enough so as to leave you with a strong impression. That was probably one of this work's weakest aspects and one of the reasons why I simply cannot view it as a "definite must read".

All in all, it's a decent light read but that's all it is.

This is the kind of stuff you want to read on a rainy day, your mood is sure to have improved afterwards. The artwork is not brilliant -by far, but the contents make up for it. If you like light yuri dramas, this one should be in your collection
