Description
In the near future, large mechs called Labors are made to assist in various reconstruction projects in major countries around the world that are being threatened by global warming. In Japan, the government has enacted Project Babylon in order to conduct land reclamation. Labors are also being pressed into police and military service, aside from civilian use.

However, terrorists are now attempting to use Labors to make themselves heard, as well as common criminals, thugs and guerrillas. The National Police Agency established the Special Vehicles Division, an all-Labor task force to combat the potential use of Labors for criminal/terrorist activities.

This title received the 36th Shogakukan Manga Award for shounen manga in 1991.

This manga is basically the tv show with a different narrative structure but again with no definitive ending so shippers are left in the cold once more. At least it won´t depress you like the movie universe at the end even if this is the best Patlabor version as Mamoru Oshii was on top of his game. The here art is nice and calm, the characters are as lovable as ever (isn´t Goto the best?) and the comedic timing is great.
The story flow isn´t quite ideal and i do not understand why we need a third origin tale but oh well. I also don´t quite get why this is a shonen manga even if it is youth friendly but at least the publisher awarded it. Read it even if you have already experienced the other 2 versions as you can´t have enough of this classic and till a new scanlation can be found i warmly recommend the of the franchises animated tales.
Masami´s main work Biry is sadly lame but his Atom - The Beginning and Ja Ja Uma Grooming UP! are other quality slice of life with a twist tales and wouldn´t it be nice if Kenrou Densetsu´s printed storys got another chance at life?
