Description
Kuraki Fuzuchi is a quiet young man who has immense psychic powers and sword skills. He later meets Takeo Nanachi, a college student with similar latent powers. The story opens with Nanachi traveling to a small shrine in the mountains for a festival that only occurs every 49 years in order to purify his (now deceased) grandfather’s sword. There he meets Kuraki and later accidentally stumbles upon Kuraki’s initiation ritual as a Shaman. From there on, their lives are inexplicitly intertwined as they encounter various ghosts, spirits, demons, and other characters with supernatural powers while the author also provides a parallel running story depicting their previous life.

Great art, cool plot by iyakuko on August 12th, 2009, 10:00am

This is a fabulous little series that uses the mythology of the kojiki as a jumping off point. I found both of the main characters appealing, cliches though they are, and the ending emotionally satisfying. The overall plot does rely heavily on mcguffins, but what fantasy quest plot doesn't?

It's not remotely shounen ai, but I think most shounen ai fans will see quite a lot of subtext between the leads.

What a pity that it hasn't been licensed! I think this series is an excellent candidate for professional translation.

Okay, I guess. by calstine on June 26th, 2009, 1:02pm

Now, one thing is for certain. Don't expect brilliantly convoluted plots or a great deal of uniqueness and intellectual stuff from this. But, it's a good read; the story so far is okay- if not a little predictable, but I'm sure things will get more interesting when the manga reaches the past-life story.
The characters are very cliched, but fairly likable.
The cheerful and optimistic main character is a loser of sorts who, incidentally, was a sword-maker of divine skill in a previous life, and retains vestiges of that power even now. And predictably, despite being a washed-out type, he seems to have a good potential with the ladies, who are drawn to his politeness and boyish ways.
The other character is the cold, ruthless fighter who, unsurprisingly, is not so bad at heart, but has an 'evil within him' that compels him to act rashly and with disregard for life. The only person who he opens up to, and the only person who can control him, is the above-mentioned nice guy.
Then there's the nice guy's rowdy, rude, outspoken little sister (with a tremendous crush on her brother's friend), the rude guy's jealous cousin, and so on and so forth.
All things considered, why bother to read it?
Because, cliched or not, it has it's moments, and a lot of potential for developing in to something unique in the future.
Also, I am telling all of you- this is NOT shounen-ai! How stupid can people get? A true shounen-ai manga can usually be detected through the first two or three chapters. This is not that type. Despite it being indicated in the genre at some websites, shounen-ai phobics(I know what it's like 'cause I'm one of them too) need not shy away from this manga.

seems interesting by Nernel on May 8th, 2009, 12:27am

... the art is beautiful, the bishies hawt, the storyline is actually gripping even though it seems a bit wordy at times.

oh, but -.3 for not being a shounen-ai. i mean, seriously, the tension is staring at you in the face.

The best of its kind. by Atlanta on August 1st, 2008, 8:59am

Gripping, layered and truly excellent supernatural drama! The art is beautiful, too. While the whole past-life thing has been done many times, this adds something of a new flavor to it. I'm still not sure this is shounen ai, though. (At least, not based on the current scanlations.) Kuraki and Nanachi definitely have some homoerotic tension going on between them, but their past selves were "brothers," so... I dunno. Regardless of whether it turns out to be shounen ai or not, I'm going to be reading this series! Please, In2k2 and SiH, continue with your fine work!
