From Viz:
Pokémon comics based on the original Game Boy games... not the TV series!
POKÉMON ADVENTURES includes all the Gym Leaders, places, and opponents from the game. There's plenty of action as trainers named Red and Blue explore forests, jungles, cities, and caves in search of Pokémon and excitement. But can they foil the schemes of Team Rocket, a mysterious group of villains who want to use Pokémon for evil?

I really prefer this than anime (I know most of the review say it already)
the anime is boring,it's just a replay. the theme is just the same from the 1st to the current one. the newest one "pokemon BW" is the last straw, they reset almost everything...
I really want to buy this, but they don't publish it in my country
I think this manga may be rated in two different aspects: the first as a shonen manga and the second in comparison to the anime. As a shonen manga, I think it's terrible. The art is not so good, we have boring and annoying characters, the pace is horrible: too fast sometimes and too slow others, the story is stupid and predictable and we have all shonen clichés you can imagine. In comparison to the anime, however, the manga is a hundred times better. There's no reboot, to start with: we see the characters getting stronger by the time, although they apparently don't age. The story is way better than the anime's. There's no Jesse and James. We have many protagonists, with many differents personalities. Summarizing: If you're not a fan of pokemon, you should not read it in my opinion, since all good aspects of this series appear only when you compare it to the anime.
In comparison to the anime, the manga has far more depth and adventure. To be honest, the anime toned down a lot of the action for the younger viewers as is basically the same plot over and over again. Ash meets companions. Gets badges. Never wins the league. Restarts all over again - just different pokemon.
But THIS - is simply amazing. When I started reading it, I was really hooked. There's humor, action, adventure and slight hints of romance. I especially liked the arc between Ruby and Sapphire - where it demonstrates the battle between the legendaries and their fight. It even had the depth of their childhood relationship (:
At times, it can drag on and seem quite lengthy, but I recommend it to all those who like action packed manga.
i dont even play pokemon and started reading the series because i used to watch the anime. i agree its better!!! its less redundant and the plot is great. my only wish would be that "red" (or ash) could be the protagonist the whole way through... when reading a series i like one protagonist the whole way through instead of like twenty. oh well, i know the author is trying to stay true to the game!
I love this!!! Even after 10 years. I still love this! I can no longer gear back myself into T.V. series anymore, but this one, Pokemon Special, is something else! Despite art itself is little infantile, the story itself is somewhat mature, and that is where it becomes the great adventure manga! The author blends the most distinguished fantasy plot with some realism very well! I think this is one of the best adventure manga of this era, perhaps, all-time! I especially give good rating for The Fourth Chapter for his 'hobby'! (that was funny as hell for main protagonist to have)
I wonder if Game Freak will ever make a 'special' game based on this manga. I would be one fan to enthusiastically play.
By the way, I am commenting this as I am reading vol. 15. I might change my comment a bit afterwards.
I agree with all the comments here! and yea..this is the BEST Poke'mon adaptation yet. The characters are well-developed, the plot is evolving every arcs...! (My fav. arc is the Ruby/Sapphire arc..!! The BEST EVER!) this manga makes me PROUD to be a Poke'mon fan. *Forget about the crappy anime, READ THIS MANGA!
At first i thought this 'Comic' stuff was boring and i stuck onto the more boring anime. But i saw this book(In chinese)on my school's bookfair and bought it. Heh, now i got all 27 books! And i want the next one right now. <- Greedy Ps: It has great story, great art, great characters, great...whatever you can name it! But i still prefer Mato's drawing than Satoshi's XP
This manga is by far the best adaptation of the original Pokemon games. I love the characters, the intense battles and the character design. The anime is nothing compared to this! I would love to buy the volumes by Chuang Yi if I could find them. Definitely worth your time.
