Description
Kyou has fallen in love for the first time in his life. There's just one problem--the girl he's in love with only has eyes for someone else: her straight best friend. Throw in a father who runs a drag bar, a goofy best friend, and an unexpected plot twist, and you have a story that blends realism, humor, and poignant drama.

This Short Story was published in "Yukan Kurabu" Volume 14.

Without any context, you can feel this was written in the late 80s - early 90s. Unlike others, I love this art style but I didn't care much for the plot. A lot of mangas from this time period addressed social issues, which I appreciate, but they always did it in a very limited way -- meaning, full of stereotypes. The intention is sincere, as they portray every character sympathetically, and I think this was how they did sympathetic portrayals of people who were social outcasts back then.

It can feel clumsy, but I think if you leave modern day thoughts (they didn't get the privilege of knowing what we knew now) at the door, it's an interesting insight into how people thought back then, even the ones who were pioneers for acceptance. I enjoyed the characters but the pacing of one plot twist was really off to me and made me go back to see if I missed a page or some hint that it was coming at all. Overall, enjoyed it.

One more story with a great young man (Kyou) from Ichijo Yukari ^^v ! Isn't he nice?!? Very!
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
I wish Kyou and Mako-chan could end up being together *^^*. They would make an interesting pair. And I wish I could read about it : /

If you like Kyou then I suggest you to read "Tadashii Renai no Susume".

it feels liek this one has an entire manga's worth of plot in here which is really good because even though it was just a oneshot it didnt feel overly crowded, it was nicely executed every single bit! the characters are all real seeming.. the art was alright, not the best but it had its moments. i am really happy i gave this one a chance smile

Spoiler (highlight to view)

The realism in this comic was a breath of fresh air-and i mean it. I thought the main theme discussed in this manga was done delicately; that love isn't black or white. And I also liked the ending. It makes us wonder if Mako would really ever reciprocate the enormity of his love but it was done in a way that was neither patronizing or simplistic-but with a tinge of humour.

A surprisingly interesting oneshot

The art may be a bit off-putting for some, reminiscent of Glass Mask and other manga from around the 1990's, and the story starts off a bit slow, but you'll be glad that you stick to the story until the end. It has a nice mixture of realism and comedy. It is the characters that make the story interesting, although initially you're inclined to feel apathetic towards the main character, which may make people not want to continue reading the story. The story becomes more interesting when you find out who becomes the object of his affection, and how his behavior changes. It's a bit too bad that it's only a oneshot since it would be interesting to see how the main character continues to interact with his crush.

Art: 5 (decent - not good/not bad)
Story/Plot: 7 (good - recommended)
Characters: 8 (very good)
Overall score: 7 (good)
