This is Seinen by cleodux on September 21st, 2009, 8:42pm

@sssk i can't help but register to write this. Tenjou Tenge is not shounen. The starting chapters are a bit tricky i also thought that this is shounen, but i was wrong.

I first watch the anime, so i never confused the main character, but when i read the manga, i immediately identified Nagi as the main too. I think most ppl stereotyping main hero as having a straight black hair (if you play a lot of dating sims game you get the idea)

This manga full of flashbacks, i mean when it happen it can last you like 2-3 vols of flashback enough to make you dizzy and never pick this manga again. I honestly skip the whole Shin's flashback. I just wish that he die sooner so the flashback not really long.

The story is very confusing, when it is start, it is just your ordinary school fighting manga, and then there this fighting club, and there is this flashback. And then continue to Takayanagi family and Sohaku's plot. Btw... i never really get it... is Sohaku is the biological father of Souichiro? The love triangle thing is crazy, in fact it looks like a love square or prism, i don't know you name it.

The feudal era flashback is one of my fav. In fact Ichiyo Nagi is my fav char out of everyone else.

At first it looks like shounen, and then everyvody start dying. And the way they fight doesn't look shounen at all. Stay away from this manga if you don't like seinen.

Main character by sssk on June 9th, 2009, 7:37pm

What put me off in this manga, and made me stop reading it after Vol. 3 was that right when I started reading this manga, I identified the main character being Takayanagi.

But as it turns out to be, Souichirou is actually the main character, so I'm reading this, seeing Sou getting all the attention and action, while Taka is just being left out, and I really don't like it. I mean I read manga not for the fighting scenes (they are however cool, since character development can occur during them), but for romance and character development, so if it's some macho random (in my view, Taka is also full of himself I could say) guy that gets it all, I'm really disappointed...

This manga would have been a really enjoyable read, but the way it was introduced messed up my idea of who was who, and I'm left awaiting good events for my not-so-main character, which come rarely, and in between, I'm left literally jealous of Sou for Taka. (AFAIK, Vol.3)

I wonder if anyone else misinterpreted the character positions. hopefully not x(

I give it a 7, loses points in my book for rape scene (hate hate! hate!!! those... and isn't this shounen? where getting full nudity here, not that I mind), length (will this ever be over?), too complex for a Shounen (or the translator really screwed up the phrasing) and weird introduction (would actually be around 4/10 if it would have been noted by anyone else, but for now I'll just take it as me being weird).

Good art, diversified characters, interesting setting. Recommended read, at least the first volume, if only because it's one of Oh Great!'s work.

PS: Taka's appearance seems to change, check out page 7a of Vol.1, first and last pannel, it's like shrimp then well-built!

art is NOT great by Grumpy on March 26th, 2009, 2:49pm

I don't get it, so many ppl are saying the art is so great for this. It's really not. The main looks stupid and I'd rate this manga's art under average tbh. I don't know what everyone is seeing. The mangaka certain does have the capacity to draw well as he shows in other mangas, but his is clearly not the best of his work in artwork.

That is all I wanted to say.

good by jnatsumi on March 23rd, 2009, 4:13pm

I started reading this manga when I was done with the anime first. I started it off at around chapter 50 or so. I must say that in addition to the beautiful art, the fighting scenes in this manga are one of the bests around. You know, one of those battle-fill manga that makes you go "wow" or "oh sh--" every time.
I like the plot at first--that is, until the love triangle started to get weird. Then, it started flashing backward like crazy. (flashbacks)
The manga plot itself spans over a LOOONNGGG period of time--like 400 to 2000 years earlier (but focuses on the present). But that's not a bad thing, I suppose.
The plot gets really complicated later on, though. I don't know who is who and who is on whose side. I hope it will clear up soon....
This is also romance. Unlike most mangas (shoujos,...), the reader won't be able to tell who the main character is going to end up with. When you think that it is that girl, something happens that makes you think that that other girl is going to be the one. Yeah it's complicated, but it IS a good manga.
The characters--are deep. I have more than one favorite characters in this manga and none of them are the lead(well, kinda). [Masataka and Aya are my favorites] I often swoon when Masataka fights. As for Aya, ..humm...she's really pretty and fights really well, but she's not perfect. And also, I don't like her sister.

Should totally give it a try. Watch the anime, too (for the animated fight scenes)--but it's not as good as the manga sine it's shorter.
Warning, though, this manga has a lot of nude scenes and uh...rated R, i guess. Nah. rated T.
enjoy! (sorry, wrote too much)

the art is definately one of the best around
I used to be a great fan of Tenjou Tenge(unlike many i prefer suichiro and aya =P)
however the story could have been better, i began losing interest as the story gets bog down and eventually gave up,might pick this up back once it ends just to see how it goes but for now i rate it a 7 for awesome art

i dont reccomend it by Monstar Maalik on October 2nd, 2008, 5:54am

this manga is a case of good art...bad writing, there's nothing original here......but at the same time who doesn't like reading a manga about a badass main character with other badass supporting characters duking it out with badass villians.....

but Tenjho Tenge fails where other mangas have succeeded, if you're over the age of 14 or atleast have that maturity level...you will drop this manga, oh great!'s writing skills just aren't on par with alot of other mangaka's of the same genre

but i will tell you this.....if you like badass characters, good art, fighting, and adult content and you can excuse a bad story.....go ahead and pick up

for the rest, i'd say dont waste your time
