Lovers Doll

Description

When Shin hears about a doll known as the "bloody doll" from his friends, he can't help but be curious. Instantly falling in love with the figurine he decides to buy it, but there are rumors about the doll and how it got its name. It can supposedly move and talk, one owner even claimed that it drank his blood.

Unfazed, Shin buys the doll anyway to find out that the rumors might not be as ridiculous as they sound...

Not one of my favs yaois out there, but this one was a reeeally cute read =) I've read some comments saying that this one is only cutness and smut and I was like: "smut?" It has so little smut hahaha
I think the cutness is enough for me to like this one, but it was sad too and different from other yaois so... isn't that enought? 🙂

This is the first time i've read a fantasy genre BL manga, because i really keep my hands off on the genres i don't want but this manga intrigue me. It's good and bittersweet. I really love their relationship and i thought that it will be tragic because

the doll was broken and lost life for 13 years, but shin is really faithful and my heart hurts when they see each other again, God what is this love! I'm happy that they reunited but i cried at the ending because eventhough it's a happy ending i just feel so sad on that epilogue it is a bittersweet fable like story. "When the master ages the doll stayed by his side and when the master passed away, the doll never moved again, i guess they are together in heaven (i forgot the exact words and sentences but this resembles it i think) oh damn my heart hurts really. the extra cheers me a bit but... Well this is really good.

Quite ordinary, nothing particularly stood out for me in this manga aside from the amazing ratings and comments it's given.
The story was too fast and jumpy for me to really get into it and develope feelings for it. The art was decent and I liked the idea of the character and plot. Just wasn't very touching or particularly good.

I first saw Lovers Doll on a certain site where they rank those popular manga out there and as far as I remember... it is in the top 150. Since it's so unusual for a manga labeled as BL to be included on that ranking... I got curious and read some reviews about it. 'Supernatural', it says. I hate that genre. So I took my hands off of it and ignored it for about couple of months or so. Then I got bored and finally decided to take it once more [just to feed off the boredom]. Then I got somewhat bothered with the art. Why does the seme looks more like of the uke than the uke himself? It irked me once again, but I collected my courage to give it a go, despite this lingering stuff on me.

After reading it, I regretted it.

I REGRETTED THE FACT THAT I DIDN'T ACTUALLY GIVE IT A GO THE FIRST TIME I SAW THIS MANGA! IT'S TOO AWESOME AND MAGNIFICENT AND SUPERB! 😀

Well... as for the plot, it really has a supernatural element. I don't like supernatural things. I mean, can't we just give up with those pathetic fantasies and move on in reality? But in this manga, it's different. It made the story unique and kind of interesting. Shimeji, despite of being a doll, has become a representation of someone who has been rejected for the love he truly wanted just because he's different. It connotes to what BL is all about - boys love - which isn't something everyone can easily accept and everyone thinks of as against the norm. And as the story goes along, when he already found his perfect 'master'... sighed That tear jerking moment... up to the last part... I WOULD SAY, IF YOU WANT SOME VERY TOUCHING, CUTE, DRAMATIC LOVE YAOI, I RECOMMEND THIS ONE. IT'S ONE OF THE BEST [I'm restraining myself from spoiling the story. laughs]

As for the characters... Shimeji is just too cute! And Shin... gosh! He's so romantic guy! He even spent 13 years just to... Well, as for the antagonist... he's so successful since I've come to hate him for what he have done laughs. All the main and need characters of the story have been naturally involved as the story goes by. It's not just like the mangaka tries to fit all the story to the characters. She did it otherwise which made the flow nice. She made every person in the story to go with the story and it's good. It didn't come out as if the mangaka had run out of time and rushed all the things and made it crappy because of it.

The art, I did not complain about it after reading the book. I just realized that it actually is fitting to the characters and to the story.

As for the ending... it's perfect. I never thought it could made me teary-eyed just because of it.

A must-read BL manga. Worth it. 😀

Sweet Tragedy

Wow, this is why I love Kazuhiko Mishima.
She is so good at making me laugh and cry at the same time.
'Lovers Doll' was so heart-breaking and the story was just so good.

This is what made me tear up...and then on the next page...

"Those two must have gone to Heaven together." I can't explain how heart-broken I felt after reading that, but I really think it did happen...and it somehow puts my heart at rest.
It was so sweet, yet so sad. I bawled for the longest time after that.
Even that 'Come on, cheer up' extra chapter at the end didn't help.

Heart wrenching

This was the first time I've completely finished a manga of Kazuhiko-sensei. To tell you the truth, I don't like sensei's artwork. There was one manga that I was going to read because the synopsis was interesting but I didn't finish because of the drawing. Well, I'm really into good artwork. However, when I started reading this and saw the little-adorable-Shimeji, ugh, I lost to myself. Add the good and heartwrenching storyline, I was completely got hooked up reading the manga. Every scene was wonderful especially when Shimeji finally and gradually experiencing different emotions which he was yearning for a long time towards his owner. I'm glad he found happiness. And the 13 years Shin spent just to fix Shimeji? God, my heart got completely tore into pieces. Beautiful.

Ah, I wish I have a Shimeji too. 🙂

This Is So Touching, I Want To Cry

I'm totally deleting my entire comment that was posted here because it was so poorly written and i felt that it didn't give this manga justice for what a true gem it truly is. The story immediately grabs your attention once everyone starts talking about this bloody doll. It was described as evil, mischievous, and demonic. Well hell, i for one would not describe Shimeji as anything CLOSE to being evil. He's a precious little, tiny, cute, fucking angel. He's completely misunderstood and just wants to be loved like anyone on the planet. Good thing Shin truly saw what a cute noodle he was. Lovers Doll definitely fucked with my emotions because at MANY points throughout the manga, i was on the verge of tears because of how beautiful their love was for each other. It's so GODDAMN CUTE, i'm still screaming on the inside. They really were meant to be together forever.

i agree, this is the manga-ka's best work. i'm not a big fan of her other works and i'm not too thrilled about her artwork either but this one was great! it was short and sweet and it was just....very moving.

the only thing i didn't like about it was how one of the characters kinda goes crazy (his existence basically serves to move the plot along) but because this manga makes up for it in every possible way, i'll let it pass 🙂 10/10 from me!

So cute! Likeable characters and a sweet plot, and a great ending. I agree with what most people have said about the end, it is really touching. A bit sad but in a sweet way (you'll understand when you've read it!) The extra was good too, I didn't think what Shin said was so bad because it was obviously a lie. I admit it was kinda mean of him but as it wasn't the truth then I can forgive it.
As for the art, it's not amazing but it's so unique that I like it. To be honest I would've liked more smut (Mishima-sensei always delivers good sex scenes so it would've been nice to have more. Even more kissing would've been enough!)
A nice little story :]
