The description says that Zhou Yu was portrayed as a 'bad guy,' but he was actually considered a pretty handsome man. I will elaborate more for female readers who will probably be unfamiliar with the Classical Chinese Novel, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
Zhou Yu was the Sworn Brother of Sun Ce, the Man who retook the Wu Territory, which later become one of the 3 Countries, and was nicknamed the 'Little Conqueror' (due to how Fast he did it). The two of them heard of the 'Two Qiao,' who, according to the rumors, 'Outshone the Moon, and Put Even the Most Beautiful Flower to Shame.'
They married them, with Zhou Yu taking the younger sister, Qiao Xiao Qiao, the daughter of Qiao Xuan. Sun Ce was said to have been killed in 200 A.D. by a man's ghost (called Ji), and when in 208 A.D., Cao Cao, who had become the most powerful figure in the Northern Plains, decided to invade Jing Province (where Zhou Yu was) through the Chang Ban river with his huge Navy, Sun Ce's younger Brother, Sun Quan, had to choose between surrendering, or what seemed to be a hopeless battle.
After Zhou Yu heard that Cao Cao had his eyes on the Qiao Sisters, he urged Sun Quan to fight. He did, and, despite being sickly bedridden over stress, thanks to Zhou Yu's Fire Attack Strategy, Burning through Cao Cao's Massive Armada, Victory was Handed to them in the Legendary Battle of Chi Bi (Red Cliffs). The 'Handsome Zhou Yu' died in the same year.
I am not sure how much the manhua touches on all of this (or where the heck that 'gender-bender' came from), but the Chinese readers probably have some background to draw upon, and I think having an idea of the History involved in this Tale is a good factor to help appreciate it.
