GS Mikami Gokuraku Daisakusen!!

Description
Overdevelopment and crowding in Japan has forced many of its indigenous spirits and ghosts to lose their homes. Due to problems caused by the homeless spirits, a new profession was created, the Ghost Sweepers (GS). Private exorcists for hire; they serve only the highest bidder to survive in the cutthroat corporate world. Among this, the Mikami GS Company, led by Reiko Mikami and her two assistants, the teenage boy Tadao Yokoshima and the ghost girl Okinu, is said to be the best.
The manga setup is scenario-to-scenario, with many plots intertwining classic Japanese culture and modern day realities, with occasional references to Western influences. In between these plots are some longer story arcs where new characters are introduced and the existing characters are further developed. There is no one ongoing storyline, therefore the plots are character-driven and serve to gradually develop characters, especially the main protagonists.

At first glance, this manga does not look good: old-school simplistic manga art, no real plot, stereotyped characters... And yet, after a few volumes, with new funny characters and the parody humour, this manga grows on you before you know it. Even if the manga does not really get serious, a surprisingly good main plot emerges (second half or so). Though don't expect too much of the plot, I guess there was a lot of improvisation here, but still much more developed than one would expect of a light comedy shounen.
plus: a wide range of attaching and funny characters, the humour, a real plot in the second half minus: simplistic drawings, slow at start, not very consistent, boring power driven fights

gwang19578 im takeing a guess that you cant enjoy life unless you have the best of the best. the manga starts off generic as all hell, and ill admit i wasnt expecting a damn thing to improve. however after the first volume, or so it grows on you. and like fieryeagle1 said, it takes till volume 3 befor it kicks into where you want to read the next chapter.
as of writeing this im at chapter 80, and im hopeing that its as good now till the end of the seriese.
and also give this at least 3 volumes to get going. some mangas need 1 chapter to pull you in, some need 12+ volumes (either you know it or you dont) this one takes 3 |

| I like classics series like Ranma 1/2 and GS Mikami deserved to be in the list of the best (Shogakukan Manga Award in 1993, mind you)...It may seem generic in the first few volumes but when things start to go together; it's enjoyable, verily much so. |

Probably one of the worst mangas ever created. The plot is boring as hell, the characters and dialogue is annoying... and you're a loser if you think that the comedy in this manga is actually entertaining. The artwork is god-awful, probably the worst ever made for a shonen manga. I've never taken a single art class in my life, and I can draw better than this mangaka. To shorten it up: stay away from this manga It really puzzles me that so many people are giving this a 10/10.

If you are looking for a dark shemed plot which digs deeply into the human mind, then GS Mikami isn't the right manga for you. This manga is solely about the daily life of exorcists from the eyes of an avaricious professional, a lecherous high school student and a ghost assistant for the first half. The second half makes a sharp turn and instead concentrates on character development and the hidden main plot. What makes this manga unique is the easy-going reading flow. Thanks to its compact style (every chapter consists of 17-18 pages including the title page and omake), it gives the readers a comfortable feeling. It might be difficult to get into this manga at first, because the earlier volumes are only consisting of fillers, but even that is highly addicting thanks to the large variety of unique characters and great slapstick comedy. Although the plot has its flaws and holes, keep in mind it isn't meant to be taken seriously and compared to the reality to begin with. plus: comedy, variety of characters, plot-/character development, no dragged out scenes minus: chaotic start, slow progress at the beginning, oldschool artstyle, no character development except for the main characters
Highly recommended for those who are interested in classic shounen mangas (this is a very famous manga in asian countries) and comedy.

Though GS Mikami may seem as another generic shounen, it actually excels above others just because of the awesome comedy. Highly recommend it to those who like their supernatural shounen funny! Besides, daily updates from the Nerieru team just make this manga more addicting
