is Harlem Beat or Rebound ever going to be translated into english? i absolutely love these series, but can only find them in Japanese...what's going on? don't want to have to buy all the books just because i don't want to take up space.
Harlem Beat is so likable. It's lighthearted, fun, and not all about basketball. This manga is dialogue-heavy (lots of character interaction and development of relationships) but the banter between characters is so awesome, I love it anyway.
It's really great manga, I remember I laughed so hard every time I read this series. Well, it has tear jerking moments too. I think it has good balance of sport time and personal life of the players. The character development is great, even minor characters have their moments. Nishiyama-sensei really did great job here.
Yeah, until now I dunno how awesome of this stuff never been scanlated. This is the top of my favorite sport manga especially basketball manga. And makes Nishiyama Yuriko is one of my favorite mangaka.
I'm very glad this manga release in Indonesia.
ps. I've playing the game based on this manga, released by Konami for Playstation.
Many Basketball manga focus only on normal basketball but this manga have focus on 2 types of basketball game 1.normal basketball 2.street basketball (or 3-on-3) (see : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streetball ) And as fictionalscience state, this manga not only focus on basketball, i think 60% of story is about basketball game/training 40% is about characters (main or not) lives.
Spoiler (highlight to view)
The sadest thing in this manga is why,why and why his team (Jonun) always eliminated in all tournament, never make it to final.
Ah man, it's been a long time since I picked up this manga... but I agree, this one is totally underrated. That's kinda sad, since it's such a good basketball manga.
The main character has always been the loser but finally, in basketball he finds himself shining. It has all the repetitive "shining" moments for the underdog hero but it's also just great. It goes from inter-school basketball games to street basketball. Very cool and worth the read.
This comic totally, totally rocks. I don't know why this comic isn't very popular in US, but in Indonesia it's totally popular. Sawamura is just effin hot. Seriously, this is an awesome comic. Both boys and girls can read this. This book isn't 100% basketball, lots of the plot contains the character's feelings, and this book really really rocks. That's all i gotta say.
I grew up reading this manga (translated into Indonesian ^^). The plot isn't just about basketball, it also included the main characters' personal lives, which sometimes get pretty dark since it involved some gangster violence. But the comedic reliefs are great, especially with the gullible main character. I just wished the version licensed in English didn't edit their names
