The plot line seemed geared to span several volumes at the first chapter, but rushed on from there out. It's not a bad read, but the story doesn't fit well to the one shot format it was stuffed into.

This is poorly written, plain and simple. The characters are laughably immature despite the fact that they live in a world where humanity is literally on the verge of extinction (the battle in the second chapter is considered to be so important they outright state that they would have to evacuate mainland Japan), elementary school children can get a hold of a M-16 with live ammo (which is accidentally discharged and even hits the enemy) and yet the main character ends up critically wounded in the first chapter because he tries to save a crippled cat (who's leg has been blown off by the nearby fighting).

The first chapter introduces a lot of information, though it doesn't really ground the context of that information, as well as introducing the characters and starting to develop their relationships. It seems like it might work better as an epic, but it's going too fast, and the characterization and pace aren't as well done as I'd like because of that. There's been a notable amount of plot developments and action already in just the first chapter, but I'm not too into it, although other people might be. The style of narrative is very similar to Ubel Blatt (but, like I said, done in turbo), by the way. It's interesting, in any case.
