I'm sorta basing my opinion off the anime, so... disclaimer.

It's a kinda standard/above average coming-of-age shounen fighty manga really, I would have probably gotten bored of it if it hadn't been Arakawa and Wuxia at the same time - two of my favorite things.
That's my impression, I won't go any more in-depth as it was the anime I experienced and not the manga. These letters may change if I ever get round to reading it fully.

Rushed beggining, good mid, unimpressive ending

My second Arakawa story. The story seemed really rushed at the beginning. With the developments in first chapter and that too so much of it. Seemed like, it won't continue for long. But then gradually it gained some good pace and character development was done well too, by the end. Sadly, since the manga hasn't been fully scanlated, I haven't been able to read the final few chapters; but its not like we don't know the ending. Main thing is how it comes about. Even FMA ending was not something which couldn't have been known, the real deal was how was history developed to meet that specific end. Anyways, this a good manga, and I'd suggest everyone to read it.
P.S. The art went totally mature by the end with much brutal blood shed; well not contemporary seinen level brutal, but i'd say it went mature.
Edit 02/04/2013
ending not impressive.

This is flat out bland. Really, Arakawa is noted for world building and characterization, not art, so that's a waste of talent right there. Storytelling is not nuanced enough to carry off the cliches.

It's good but not THAT good, more like shounen good. It's better than most Jump manga but still not on par with Arakawa's other series, namely FMA. FMA is definitely on a whole other level. But I'd still recommend this to anyone who loves shounen manga
pretty good! Go Arakawa!

I'm so glad Hiromu has another work, besides FMA that isn't a oneshot. I know that this story isn't just written by her but b a group of people which they name "Huang Jin Zhou" But I'm sure she had the biggest influence on it. I'm not sure if anything will ever be as great as Fullmetal Alchemist, for I am obsessed with that series, but I have high hopes for Juushin Enbu or "Hero Tales". So far I've read the first vol. and I think it is great.

I've now read up to ch 17. I love this manga!!! It's great!! A must read!!
**Edit**
Now I've read ch. 19, when is the next chapter coming out!?!?! FMA is over right? what's taking so long!

The plot is exciting and fast paced, though the plot thickens during the recently chapters and keeps us interested. The main character's super strong which is cool and the secondary characters have their own unique personalities. Slightly cliche but good nonetheless.
So far, not as good as fullmetal. But maybe it'll pick up later on.
