It’s the vacation of a lifetime, a trip to a remote island filled with geniuses and murder.
On Wet Crow’s Feather Island, a tiny speck in the Sea of Japan, lives Akagami Iria, the exiled daughter of a powerful family. Born into great wealth, she was a princess of the highest pedigree–until she was cut off by the leader of the Akagami Foundation. For the last five years, she’s lived on Feather Island with her maids. But she hasn’t been alone. She has invited the best minds Japan has to offer to come and stay with her.
So nineteen-year-old college student Ii-chan and his best friend, computer genius Kunagisa Tomo, find themselves as Iria’s guests at her elaborate mansion. Surrounded by fascinating women–a chef, a fortune-teller, a scholar, and an artist, not to mention his own friend Tomo–Ii-chan is feeling a little overmatched intellectually. But the sudden discovery of a grisly murder sends the island into shock. And Ii-chan discovers that he does possess the ability to discover what is real and what is fake. Who is who they claim to be and who is a killer.

First Nishio novel
Rating: 10.0 / 10.0
by Kunagisa
September 14th, 2016, 1:30am
I'm a huge fan of Nishio Ishin, so i read Zaregoto carefully, paying attention to every single detail in it. When i ended the reading, i laid in my bed and look up to the roof, i start thinking. "Yeah, i have a relation of pure love and hate with this author, one of my favorites". Why me, who is clamoring that is a huge fan of an author would hate him ? Well, this is kind non-sense if you think too much about it. But i hate how much i love it. Kubiki Cycle was the first novel of Nishio Ishin and as some people said "This might not be good at all... his first work", as a admirer, i couldn't think it not even for a second but even then, i was highly surprised. It was amazing, enormously amazing. Even the afterwords were amazing. His first work couldn't be expressed in number of rating, the word "amazing" couldn't express how great was the reading. The quality level of a newbie Nishio Ishin to me was too big, like sky and earth. Even if i already knew it, this bitch slap of reality make this title be one of the best reading i ever had. Nishio will play with you in Zaregoto and in the end you'll receive a bitch slap of reality about what you think you know about the history. I don't recommend Zaregoto to anyone that hasn't good taste, it's a masterpiece, a prized one. It can change your way of thinking if you are a good reader. If you can get a brilliant story, then please just don't read it, don't come here to vote "1" just because you're too dumb to understand. Zaregoto is a rare mystery detective novel with traces of pop culture, it actually changed the way people write and read novels and light novels, it makes Nishio Ishin one of the best novelist of the century.
