I can't believe this manga has so many negative reviews. I'll throw in my opinion.

At first I found it somewhat tedious and quite aimless in terms of plot. I was really expecting something different, but please please PLEASE give it a chance. It takes a while to start to care for the characters, but once you do, wow. I devoured the last five or so volumes in one sitting. Personally I really like a coming-of-age story and I think this was just so honest, thoughtful and profound in the way we saw the characters develop. I loved the comedy - I had a few fits of hysterics, mostly at Morita, but sometimes I thought it was a bit on the excessive side. The art is NOT horrible in the least, I really liked it. For once there weren't any panels where I thought, "wow, I hate the way the mangaka drew that character's expression/body." It's clean art and the mangaka knows how to manipulate it to depict carefully nuanced facial expressions and wonderful landscapes, among other things.

What is most amazing about this manga is its ability to juggle comedy and seriousness. At one point I was laughing out loud while still crying from a few pages earlier, and it didn't jar at all. And the characters are so brilliant and the way their relationships flow is so completely natural. And perhaps I'm just being soppy and sentimental but everything about this manga, particulary Takemoto's journey to find himself, really inspired me.

Give this manga a chance. I gather it's not for everyone but stick with it just in case, it gets so much better later on! People whose lives are changing/going to change will particularly appreciate it, I think.

I have to say, I really didn't like this manga at all when I read the first seven volumes. I thought that all the humor was getting pretty annoying and fksdlf just didn't like it.

A year or so later, I watch the anime series and my opinion changes. Drastically to the point that it's one of my favorite series now. I re-read the volumes up to volume seven and focused mainly on the inner thinking... and it was so much more amazing. I actually think the jokes are funny now, lol.

This story was so beautifully written. I can't believe I put it down the first time I read it.

I cried at the ending. It was so ... sweet.

Takemoto, Yamada, Mayama, Morita, and Hagu. I love these characters. I could especially relate to Takemoto and Yamada. They're sweet, pure, unrequited loves that they chased after. The inner thought of all these characters was amazing. I'll never forget this series. One of my favorites along with Lovely Complex and Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou.

I would re-read this manga any day.

10/10, deep story.

It's strange. This was one of the few manga that I didn't like from the beginning, but loved when I reread. I don't know what it is about this manga, but I find just about everything quirky and charming. I remember reading the first volume and thinking "what the heck is this about? I don't get it". But now that I reread it, it's funny to me. Everything in it is amusing, and deep at the same time. It's an amazing manga. Please check it out if you have the time!~

Hachikuro is one of the most bittersweet, believable, heart-warming manga/animes I've ever seen. And that's saying a lot. It's not your typical shoujo fare - where all is light and happiness, but instead, it chooses to explore depth of character and the reality of relationships. Not to mention Morita Shinobu is just full of WIN.

Don't judge it by the artwork. In fact, a recommendation: WATCH THE ANIME FIRST, if you're spoilt by all those shoujo artists who draw in beautiful, clean detail. Also the anime is actually finished and _available_. -cough- >.>

If you want something good but more on the humourous side, go for Nodame Cantabile!

The manga is all right, but it's starting to get really confusing. I like the live action a lot better. Maybe the anime would be good too...
I don't really recommend this manga if you aren't really into slice of life shoujo. But it is very cute, and for some reason, (maybe it's because they're art students) it always inspires me to draw.

Well Hagu looks and acts like a particularly dimwitted 6-year old, so the "love triangle" revolving around her is disturbing, to say the least. I just tell myself the two guys see her as a "muse" and not as a romantic object of affection and that helps gets me through the manga, but I've only read 3 volumes so far. Holding off on a rating for now.

I loved this series, it was an amazing slice-of-life... The characters were fantastic, especially Shinobu! He will always stand as one of my most favorite characters in manga. xD Nothing too angsty and all the problems in there I was able to relate to as an artist.
Though there were a few minor points I was a little concerned about, after awhile it hardly seem to matter.
I'd recommend this for anyone!

Honey and Clover is mostly, about friendships.

I found no other manga compares to what Hachikuro achieved. The series is perfect on the exploration of the characters depth, their relationships to each others, all their past and problems, their painful love life, their study and career, and the future. I stack it along with my top/best three manga, along with Fruits Basket and Gakuen Alice.

If you want deep great story and drama. Read it! Also the two seasons of the completed anime, since both of them are awesome.

But I wish the scanlators also care about the quantity though. But still thanks for all the great works!
