Much better than expected

This is waaaaaaay better than I thought it was going to be, and a lot more complex in a good way. I like the way these characters are so different and unique. Although they're all kick-butt strong they have creative always of pulling it off and establishing their loveable personality so although there are a ton of characters there is never any confusion. And although it is pretty much a series of matches to decide who's the strongest there is something going on behind the main picture. I also thought the art was kinda weird at first but now I like it. It's different, sort of flat in a stylized way, but it has a great sense of motion and the anatomy (which is really hard to get right) is usually spot on or close enough to it to look good.

I don't usually read webtoon manhwa manga. But i gotta say once u read this manhwa u would most likely to be interested in it to. It comedy + martial arts, it show those main characters what were their reasons to enter the tournament.I kinda glad they enter just cuz they want to face strong opponent cuz if they all have same reason it would be kinda boring. I can't wait to read more new chapters. i'm looking forward to it biggrin

A great martial arts series

I'm not sure what manhwa Saphsin was reading, but the supernatural element is introduced even before the martial arts. http://comic.naver.com/webtoon/detail.nhn?titleId=318995&no=1&weekday=f ri
This series is funny action packed and semi-unpredictable yet consistent. The story quality is staying pretty consistent throughout, which is more than I can say for most manga/manhwa. If you like action/comedies with some drama mixed in, try this.

It's a really solid shounen mahwa.
I love the art style, the plot seems to be going somewhere now but and the character are a little dull.
i have to strongly disagree with Saphsin, this manhwa started with supernatural abilities, hell the first chapter was about supernatural abilities, it's not something that suddenly became a thing it was always there.

Going downhill

The only thing that's gets better over time, is the artwork (In the beginning it was really bad). Outside of it, everything, i mean, everything gets way worse.

The story (if it had one), loses purpose after the High school Tournament. The author tries to keeps things fresh, throwing many new info and story elements at the reader, but the reader is overwhelmed with the amount of bloat this Manhwa becomes.

The characters are just as bad, they have no ambition, no goal, they just keeping getting stronger just for the sake of the (poor) story.

My enjoyment of the series was directly proportional to the number chapters this series had. The more it had, the less i enjoyed.

Overall i give this Manhwa a 4. Below Average. The author does indeed develop himself over the years, but unfortunately, it was just his artwork. Outside of it, you have a really bland battle Manhwa that doesn't try to differentiate itself from the many others out there, it just follows the recipe and hopes for the best.

If this wasn't a webcomic, and was serialized in a Japanese Magazine (Like Shounen Jump, Shuukan Shounen or Shounen Sunday). It would be cancelled ages ago.

GETS WORST

Honestly, this starts out really well. It seem in the beginning to have a potentially great plot and characters. But as you keeping on reading the chapters that amazingness you first saw in the beginning begins to disappear and the next thing, you know, your just reading this to read. It seems like the story is not even a coherent story anymore, but really just a bunch of really well drawn fight scenes and some cheeses parts where there is some moral lesson that appear out of no where. All in all read at your on risk. I'll keep reading till I can't take it anymore, so...

This webtoon finished on Dec 8, 2022 on English Webtoons (around October in Korea?), so any comments made before this timeline (with no edits) with low ratings mean they didn't read the entirety of GOHS. What a shame 😌.

This webtoon is an epic that took 11 years to finish. The entire storyline from start to finish is a beautiful masterpiece. The author himself says it was imperfect, but it's as perfect as it can be. Personally I really loved season 1-3 too, but you have to take into account 4-6 to get the culmination of all the plot points together!

Having said that... I came right after reading the last bit of season 6, so lemme put in my comments and thoughts on how it ended. 🤣

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Mira and Daewi are 51 at this point, and they're having a child? LOL I really didn't like that idea, but at the same time I'm glad Mira finally got that seed she wanted (remember her original purpose for joining the GOH tournament?!).

I am so peeved at the translation for that Mori and Ahan moment. There is supposed to be NO ROMANCE. The original translation was something along the lines of, "You're my most important / favourite person". It's sibling love! Good god.

I REALLY loved the multi-universe Jaecheondaeseongs coming together (ep 554+). Wish we had more insight into each one of them, but it ended so quickly.

Having read this nonstop (since it's becoming Daily Pass soon, ugh...), there were many times where the plot dragged and felt repetitive. Case in point: weak Mori in the new world who was once again facing "fear" for some reason and was getting so beat up (and it wasn't explained how Mori and Mujin even got there after their epic battle...), the overused theme of "do whatever you want" in season 6, and not to mention the death and revival of EVERYBODY by a ridiculous MIRACLE BABY (deus ex machina, seriously?!). The origins for Taejin Park wasn't well explained, which doesn't sit well with me.

But still, the joy I got from reading this series trumps over whatever minor grievances I have. It's well worth a 10 alone based on the amount of hard work and effort that was poured into this story.

Thank you for sharing this amazing story with us, author and artists!

Chinese Wuxia & Journey to the West in Modern Seoul
by Pacific.Mint

If you have ever watched Chinese martial arts or wuxia dramas, you'll understand where the fighting styles and the special abilities are coming from. Fighting with cards? No problem. God power coming out of no where? It's daily life for youxia. Mysterious sects in head shroud? It's everywhere in Jianghu.

In the beginning, even with the wuxia influence, the webcomic still makes sense. But as more chapter comes out, things just pop out of no where so randomly. I totally LOLed when the Monkey King, Sun Wukong, from Journey to the West, complete with his headpiece and pole, which btw came out from the moon, showed up. It's not that having those elements are bad, it's having them with all the other things from different worlds. Now we have wuxia x journey to the west worlds fused into one.

This webcomic has progressed to a stage where it's so ridiculous it's hilarious. Oh well, at least you'll laugh. But I wouldn't say Season 3 is as bad as some other reviewers say. I'll say it still has a plot, even though elusive. If you're not familiar with Journey to the West, you'll be confused with all the monkeys, gourd, and cow king stuff. Since I'm very familiar with it and wuxia, so it's just fun for me. Watch Journey to the West if you want to understand season 3 better. If you like GOH with all of its eclectic glories, check out some Chinese wuxia dramas. Start with Jin Yong's, and definitely Journey to the West.

What happened?
by TheIro

In the beginning this manhwa was great. One of the funniest and most unique stories I've read. Loved the crazy hijinks they got into, loved the totally random art changes, loved the absurd 4th wall breaking moments, loved the hilarious spoofs that poked fun at other popular manga and itself. Couldn't get enough. I was laughing myself silly.

But then for some reason it just stops. That's right it just stops. All the humour from before totally vanishes. Character development becomes non existent. It was as if the author sudden had a stroke and developed a totally different personality. From then on the series was just fight after fight after fight. New characters come in and just start fighting. Some die, some don't. But noone cares. There's zero explanation, no build up, I'm not even sure what the plot was anymore. All 'pizzazz' from before goes down the drain and the series turns from a great comedy to one of the most boring and generic shonein series you've ever read. I was so disappointed in this series.

For readers who want to try a comedy that keeps been funny throughout and doesn't let them down, try reading Prison school. Now that's what this series should of been like if the author didn't get dropped on his head.

Didn't think I review it

So I'm reading this for a long time, my rule for reviewing is don't review until you read it all and boy it finishes and I'm finished with it.

The first half of the manhwa is simple and easy to follow through, the art is great and makes great use of the line the panel is drawn. The second is where it gets dicey plot well you either like or hate and a lot of power creep done in a nice way that doesn't feel wrong, there are a lot of good and bad about the manwha but I often like to remember some of the scenes because it was fun for me at the now and still is now for me.

Give a try
