I liked how it doesn't just focus on one couple, but involves the love/romances of several characters. But I was still bored because it seemed very shallow and lacked depth as a true romance should have. Although the relationship between Makki and Erica may show some promise.
Art is good and clean but the expressions don't seem very lifelike or realistic. The smiles of the guys seem rather out-of-place sometimes... can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's cause guys don't really smile like that.
I was actually expecting a standard loads-of-guys shoujo, possibly reverse-harem. And when I began reading, I thought to myself: aha, I was right. This impression lasted until the end of Maki's recount of Erica - the storytelling literally sent a chill down my back and made me rather pensive. This happens to me only when I read good, evocative literature (not just manga). It was cliche, but the presentation was powerful, and it felt very, very real.
So I recommend it if you want to be suitably impressed or if you're just out to look out for manga with lots of guys. I am tentatively giving this manga a high score in hopes that the author can continue pulling out both heartwarming and chilling emotions from me.
...this is a manga about how a girl thinks a boy's dorm could be like...No straight boy would fawn upon the bare chest of another man....its like a straight girl would completely be immune to the bounciness of her friend's breast..i like mangaka's who put a boy's POV in a shoujo..but VERY few can actually make it believable...its funny, but plots are cliched....
Spoiler (highlight to view)
the non-blood related step sister as a secret love, the school nurse, a single gay in a boy's school- i m sure ths what girls are looking for-signs of BL, girl bullying -does that even happen? the "I will stay away from you so ppl dont hate you because of me", and the choices of women are between nasty personality - aka natural,should-fall-in-love-with and cutesy-cunning- the wrong choice
another thing i have realised- guys DO NOT go into girl fights-worst part they tend either not take sides even if a friend is involved and sometimes support the "wrong-doer"....i know this sounds prejudiced...but first hand experience
woww! finally this manga are being picked by scanlation group! seriously i'm wanting to read this so badly, because the unique story also this manga has slightly fanservice for yaoi fans hehehe
Seriously this is jaw-droppingly good. I didn't know shoujo got this good! Its funny and very uniquely and well drawn. Its the plot and the character design that makes it so great though. It takes cliches like step siblings falling for each other or the prickly girl and the cute happy-go-lucky, popular guy and it adds a lot of wisdom and a twist of reality to them. The main characters are drawn and written with kindness and given a complexity and humanity that is rare for shoujo heroes. Its a pleasure to read. Damn shame the next 6 volumes haven't been scanlated - the story was just getting started!
I am a dude who used to go to an all boys skul though it wasn't as isolated as this so i can sympathise. Thank good there is no hints of yaoi or boy love in here. Thank god. This manga is pretty realistic in terms of the fact that not everything will have a good/happy ending and that life can be harsh. The character Maki is awesome and I really love his character. It can get sad at times but that just makes this manga even better. Art is beautiful and honestly chapter 6 my god din't expect that at all. The humour is pretty good also. Am sad that this manga isn't being scanlated anymore, i hope it gets picked up by someone.
Oh my gosh. so funny, and i don't even mind that it wasn't yaoi. the bl tints were all there, mm. "Wow, your friend's really cute...a lot of guys must like him!" not the the thing you want girls you're hitting on to say.
Yaoi or BL in general is probably not my cup of tea. I double check this series several times to make sure there is not BL here cuz there is so many suspect for BL in this manga plot and art. Ok, this is not shounen-ai, so let's give this manga a try since shoujo told from guy's perspective is pretty rare.
I have read comedy manga about all girl school and experience the pityfull life in all guy dorm so I think this will a LOL manga about all boy school. Yeah, some beginning chapters give me exactly what I expected. But the more I read this manga, the more I realize that I was so wrong. This is not a manga just read for fun. This is a colection of the pieces of life, some of them is funny, some of them is sad, but in either way, they are really touching. There are many short stories that can make an excellent manga by itself.
Give it try, whatever type of reader you are, you will love it.
at first when I read the summary, I was like "ew no way... another smut/yaoi thing." But if that's what you're thinking, then you're wrong! It's actually more like a series of short stories about life and love, written very realistically. There' arehilarious moments and then there are deep, touching moments. And each story is suprisingly bittersweet.
It's also kind of like a character study. Esp. in volume 2 when the chapters start talking more about the main guy, Maki. So interesting!!! I wish the group had already finished scanlating because I really, really need to read more.
It's not that shoujo to me, because it's a lot more serious than a typical shoujo work. It goes beyond the cliche boy-girl love thing... it's just - really realistic and deep. Just give it a try.
The art is also pretty. <3
Edit: From some later chapters I can tell you it's so sad.... -sniff- but in a really good way. I've seen Izumi's other works and this one is a little more bittersweet. I love it though!!! And don't worry, it's not sappy or anything, or even depressing. It's just... sad, but good. The kind to make you tear up and smile at the same time.
It's definitely not my type BUT I perfectly enjoyed it^^...it's super hilarious XD and yeah..if u want to find some light read(with a potential of serious) this manga should be given a try...the art is not that pretty..lol I don't like the type which make handsome guys look big..I much prefer the main character..he's cute :3 although there's the AAA guy but I don't think he's that handsome(I just don't like the type of art that make guys with big body) Although I enjoy it thoroughly, I decided I'll not continue this manga..just isn't my type >_> I think people who like Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and School Rumble will like this manga
