this is a realy beautiful art and beautiful story. but it gave you the feeling, that it's lack of integrity, and some questions have stayed out of sight. in spite of that the story is rather deep and psychological/ it deserves a 10! ))
Had potential, but I didn't like were it was headed. It seems this author has a thing for making her characters very twisted. I've tried to read a few other of this author's mangas but they all end up very strange. But I guess its fine if you like things like that.
I also noticed that this author draws the manga in a very confusing order. It doesn't flow very well and it seems to be jumping around, it leaves me confused quite often.
I tried really hard to like this tale, if only because the premise was interesting and the art was --at times-- detailed and beautiful with many tiny, thin lines. However, I started to lose interest in figuring out the family's saga and gave up half-way through volume 3. If you don't mind weak story delivery, and are looking for that absoulutely breathtaking art in similar bishounen- bishoujo style as this, I'd recommend Shurei Kouyu's Alichino in an instant. Broken Angels, on the other hand, I doubt I would recommend to anyone because the art never becomes outstanding, and the story delivery is completely annoying.
Through a series of episodic adventures, the main story of the girl with the power to control water attempts to weave itself. It doesn't work. Some stories are better than others, but it is only because I could at least half figure out what was going on. All the stories seem to have something important and beautiful to say about finding one's own path and the affect we have on others, but any poetry of message was lost in the unclear delivery of both the words and art. To add to clunky story delivery, it was further thrown away in lieu of simply trying to figure out who was saying what. Aesthetically, the narration was often on dark toning which made it a search effort to find all the text. And that was only the beginning. Then I had to figure out who exactly was saying it. . .
The story lacks a complete flow. What a mean is, that it continues to hop from story to story without having a true tie. There is no consistent anchor. Which is kind of sad because this had some potential.
although like some other reviews said, the story did jump around a bit, and everything wasn't entirely clear at first, I didn't have any trouble reading it. True, near the end there were some parts that made me pause and think a little, but it didn't confuse me as say, some of Kaori Yuki's works have. Aside from that, the artwork was beatiful the whole way through, and the comedy was very funny. The romance was mostly dark and a little twisted (much like Kaori Yuki's stuff), but I did find myself touched at times. It's a really deep manga with a nice dramatic and thick plot. I loved it!
Boy was that last volume tough to get through, i mean talk about DRAMA. The story itself is quite entertaining so you will never be bored, the art is good as well but i would have wished for a normal romance on at least one couple, all we got was a bunch of twisted love.
Overall nice story, I like it. A little hints of Shoujo-ai, and Shounen-ai here and there make it fun. I love the main character's characteristics and behaviour. How I wish more characters act like her, nonchalant a lot of time, not all dramatic and overacting.
I don't like the ending. It wasn't very clear what happened and what was solved. I wish there was one more chapter or omake, focusing on the aftermath.
This manga has very very interesting characters, each with their own dilemmas. The art is very good - although I prefer shounen style, the art of this manga is of very high quality. The story is somewhat disjointed but each arc reveals more and more of the main character's pasts.
My biggest complaint is how the speech and thought bubbles are displayed - half the time I can't tell who's saying/thinking what at a glance and what order they are in, so I have to reread it to see what makes sense. This weird dialogue arrangement just made going through heavy drama sections really frustrating. At times, I couldn't even tell what was going on, because I couldn't tell who was saying what...
I have to agree with the last reviews with the disjointed and jumpy stories, which sometimes makes it a little hard to follow. Saying that, though, it gets much better further on in the volumes and gives you a little more clarity as to what is happening.
Another thing to add is the art: which very beautiful. The characters are drawn very nicely and each have their own personalities. Nice to see a mangaka who dosent stick to the stereotypes! The main character, Sunao, is a girl that prefers to dress like a boy and generally dosen't show much emotion (as a last reviewer mentioned), but can be compassionate to those in need. At the same time however, we gradually learn of her torment and sad past (won't give to many details away).
Along with other characters, including a perverted honor student and weird nurse, it make an interesting read! definately recommended.
maybe i read it too fast but... ummm? wellllll ^^' i'll read it again... >_>; but the storyline was incredibly jumpy and... disjointed... the artwork is lovely but the characters looked so alike it was hard to tell who was who... adding to the confusion... <_<;; -__-' maybe it was just the translation that confused me
