I never leave comments, but I've been reading mana since it first came out. It's so sweet and romantic that it refreshes my sprits each time I read it. Just a fantastical pleasant read!
I would rate two of the stories in this collection higher than the rest: Remote Control as a 8.5 and Drunken Dog Night as 7.5. They were the highlights of the group of 5. In fact, I wouldn't even call Remote Control shounen ai, much less yaoi, it was more about the theme of friendship, care and loneliness, and it was surprisingly touching in it's beauty.
The art work style was darker lines, but a sketchy sort of light feel. It wasn't remarkable either impressive or otherwise. Druken Dog Night had the most interesting art work, with the illustration of the boy who likes foreign objects in his body...* chuckle chuckle * And Remote Control had the most well chosen layouts in illustration to evoke emotion.
The rest of the stories didn't affect me. They fell flat and boring. The scanlation quality wasn't stellar, which also detracted from the experience. But kudos to having at least given it a go!
Drunken Dog Night; i loved this story, these two characters were so unique. but it was so short, this could have easily been a longer series. we never find out why Eitoku hates to touch others, we never find out why Hajime went from a responsible young man into a troubled masochistic man. but the story grabbed me even if it was so short.
I agree to the comment below, I'm really interested to the plot but it fell short. The ending kinda put a reaction like " WTF is that it?". I think Story 5 was the best, it have the better conclusion and development among the other stories.
The plot ideas were interesting & had a lot of potential. Some even made me LOL at how bizarre yet intriguing they were. I also enjoyed the cute parts from the quirky chaarcters. However the manga lacked punch in the deliverance or conclusions.
Haiji Sakura's art is amazing. This is my favorite of his works. It's sweet and cute, and I was sad when each story was over. (because they were over, not because they were sad, okay.)
