The PoT of Billiards

I was surprised to see Break Shot based on billiards because pool doesn't feel like a "sport" that translates well onto paper.
  • The matches are short at the professional level (about 4 to 5 minutes long)
  • Billiards is about accuracy and techniques (which all players practice) rather than individual style
  • It's turn based
  • A match can end without the other player shooting a single shot (i.e. running the table).

None of those points create a compelling shounen series which is probably why the mangaka went the PoT route.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Your Introduction of Impossible Shots

Chandelier Shot - Hit the cue ball into target ball making the cue ball shoot into air. The flying cue ball then hits the (expensive as hell) chandelier causing it to stop and fall onto the "9" ball.

Corner Cushions Shot ? - Hit the cue ball into both corner cushions of a pocket to add spin. The cue ball then travels on a semi-circle pathway across the whole table to hit target ball into the 9 ball. The ? is for lack of a better name simply as corner cushion shot doesn't sound very good at all.

Shotgun Shot - Shoot the cue ball into the target ball with enough force to shatter the cue ball. Then send the shards into ( X ) ball(s) causing it/them to go in. Can be used to accurately hit in up to 5 balls (more might be possible with practice).

Air Conditioner Shot - As a prerequisite, make sure that the AC is either already on or open the blinds on a hot day to activate it (Note: This shot is usually done in the absence of a chandelier though it follows the same basic steps). Hit the cue ball into target ball making the cue ball rise extremely high into the air. As the cue ball gets closer to the AC vent it slows down and eventually rides the air stream down into the 9 ball.

It's understandable that most readers leave during the first tournament. There's something painful about having to accept something so blatantly unbelievable in a manga that tries to be serious.

gave this a 1 because it just took the trick shots too far. you can do some crazy things in pool, but i think its safe to say you are unable to split a ball and use the shattered pieces to make two other balls at the same time, it is also not possible to launch a ball in the air and have it go high enough for the building A/C unit to blow the ball back and made in the 9 ball. Yes, this all happened in the first tourney.

I just so LOVE this fabulous story of exciting entertainment!! Even if it had defied the gravity of SOLID reality, I'd still enjoy very much reading this light-hearted manga. Never mind about some other critics so fond of criticizing/blasting off this idiotic story in their too big-headed view. Yeah, I did read some negative comments somewhere, outside of that website. In fact, I was kinda annoyed by that kind of attitude. Well, whatever. +shrug+

After all, this core topic of billiards definitely really needed to be tackled with some more brilliant creativity. Imagine how bored we'd feel, reading the way-realistic manga, without even some kinds of unbelievable/illogical magical moves/tactics!? Hm... at least in some ways, it's balanced in scientific logic. +_+

Ok, then. I'd really want very much to read the remaining chapters of v11 until the end of v16. I sincerely thank you in advance, the great team who'd consider taking up the mantle of scanlating this delightful manga. As well, I thank you, the awesome team, MangaSync for all the last volumes with heartfelt appreciation. +splashing champagne & confettis+

Have a nice day~!!
