12-year-old Aoyagi Ritsuka is a troubled child. He has no memories of his life until the age of ten. His excitable mother physically and verbally abuses him, demanding that he return the "real" Ritsuka to her. For the past two years, his older brother Seimei had been his devoted friend and protector: the only one who accepted Ritsuka's "new" self and who could stop their mother from abusing Ritsuka.

In a talk the brothers had one day, Ritsuka learns Seimei's real name is Beloved, and although Seimei refuses to explain why he would say that, Ritsuka thinks the name fits. Soon after that conversation, Seimei was found dead under mysterious circumstances.

A while later a college student named Soubi appears before Ritsuka, claiming to have been Seimei's friend. He tells Ritsuka that Ritsuka's real name is Loveless, and that like his older brother he is a sacrifice. Ritsuka has inherited Seimei's fighter, Soubi himself. Ritsuka finds himself drawn into a bizarre secret world where teams of two—fighter and sacrifice—engage in combat with another team using the fighter's verbal spells that manifest in local space and, for every round lost, create increasingly painful bindings on that team's sacrifice.

As his involvement in this new life deepens, Ritsuka unearths many shocking facts about himself, Seimei and Soubi, plus the mysterious organization related to the combat, Septimal Moon. He resolves to discover the truths behind his brother's murder and his own unexplained amnesia.

I have to say that the manga is better, the ending to the anime left me with more questions then answers. But it was still really good, just to short for my likeing. The art in both the anime and manga are beautiful

one night my sister made me watch the first 7 episodes. When soubi said "I love you" to Risuka,I was like "..."I continued to watch it but wasn't satisfied with how it ended,so of course I read the manga.I just bought the 5th book yesterday, and I've already read it!I want to buy the next one so bad.But alas I do not have any money. What a sad twisted world where someone can't enjoy a good manga. At least thats what I told the store clerk when they said"there isn't enough money here"

saw the anime first and that was I decided to read the manga after 2 years..hehe.. the art is cute..I love it when they go into chibi mode and when they snuggle and nibble each other. They look like real cats. I keep on wondering what will happen to Soubi and Ritsuka. I hope something good will happen.

Go ahead and read it. Even without the yaoi flavor you'll sure to enjoy the cuteness and the story. hehe ^_^

Well, I never expected to like this manga. I saw the anime first and I wasn't much of a fan. Imagine a 23 year old guy saying "I love you" to a 12 year old kid he was ordered to serve. And using those words to coerce and confuse that kid, who just lost his brother, who is abused at home. Yup, I totally thought Soubi had pedophilic tendencies.

So why did I finally read the manga? Because I was bored. But I am glad I did. The manga is much darker and more complex than the anime. There are some really twisted characters in there and the plot that didn't make too much sense in the anime, comes together in the manga. The art is also amazing.

At first I watched the anime and I thought it was interesting but there were things i didn't get so I decided to read the manga because of that.
The manga is actually better than the anime, you come to understand everything little by little and the weird things get sense...In the anime i didn't understand soubi at all.

I figured I'd better add on to the praise that this series has. You don't have to be into shounen-ai to love this manga because it has a great storyline as well. Not only is the storyline interesting, but you never get tired of the AMAZING artwork and Ritsuka's cute ears. ^ ^. And yes, it is very mature with a dark story to tell. So it isn't some cute little bubbly manga with nonstop smiles. Definitely in the top 3 for me.

relationship make the whole manga awesome. I absolutely love it. The art's good, too. Oh, and the fighting, and blood are cool, and give the story an added bonus!

But you should definitely give it a shot. I'd read about this before but I never bothered to read it. It sounded like some washed out boys love version of Sailor Moon. I was very surprised how much I liked it. While it does have that fantasy element, and while it does have a touch of shonen ai and shojo ai (girls love) its actually a MUCH darker story.

One of murder, abuse, attachment...this story isnt what its described to be. And actually its not something a younger audience should read. Its rated OT for older teen for a good reason. Its not about fluff balls and cute little neko boys, its a rather serious story.

The anime is alright, but the manga fills in the holes and provides the details you need. If you've only watched the anime the manga picks up from where it left off at about the middle of Vol. 4, but read the manga from the beginning anyway. There's tons of details that are missed.

I never thought I would like anything like this, how VERY wrong I was. This is easily in my top ten!
