When Haruna Nagashima was in junior high her life consisted of playing softball and reading comics. But now that she's going to high school, Haruna decides to put all of her energy towards getting a boyfriend and having the high school romance of a lifetime. To help in her quest, she enlists cute upperclassman Yoh Komiyama to coach her as she eschews her tomboy tendencies and turns herself into the kind of girl who can catch a guy. Yoh agrees, with one catch: Haruna had better not fall for him!

One of my favorites .
This was a brilliant manga . it was extremely funny and the protagonist Haruna , reminded me of myself . It's interesting about how a strange couple forms through 'that' way . I was amused and was never able to stop reading . Because this is such a good manga , i'm afraid that the live action won't be that good due to the actor playing Yoh's personality and acting skills . i don't think they quite match Yoh . but i loved this !
I didn't really like this manga, the main reason was the main female character, there's a limit to how annoying and clueless you can be. That got on my nerves alot. Yoh wasn't that much better but at least it was bearable. The art is alright though and I 'spose the plot was okay too.
dont judge a manga by its description.....valubale lesson
At first when i read the description of this manga i didnt quite like it as i dont like things like " DONT FALL IN LOVE WITH ME" stuff. BUT i undersestimated tthis and learned a valuable lesson, which i have been taught several times (and sincelry hope that i dont do the same mistake again.) DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!!!!!!!! This was honestly one of the best mangas ever made! The art was cute!!!! The PLot was intense and just awesome. Love the character development andd characters! And the romance was WOW! HIGHLY RECCOMENEDED!!!!
i've read some of the comments and don't really know why ppl hated this manga. yeah, i have to admit that the start of the manga wasn't with a good reason: a girl tries to get BF. but as the flow, the story is really okay.
the lead male, Yoh, is a good guy, he's actually stiff and easily gets shy but he's very caring and a bit childish too, which makes him very cute and adorable. and for the girl, she's... yeah, very embrassing and a bit too loud, but she's strong (for real), doesn't cry much as the story goes on and sometimes she does make me surprised.
i practically am not a shoujo fan, after a long time of reading shoujo mangas and finding it's very boring with lots in the same/easy-to-guess motif, i almost gave up on shoujo and have decided to stick with yaoi/shounen-ai only : ))))).
but this read is refeshing, and although i was wondering at first that: if these two be a couple at the very start of the story, what would happen then to make this one 13 volumes long? and yeah, i'm very satisfied with the plot, because the author didn't waste her paper at all. this couple keeps getting cuter and cuter, and Yoh does get changed because of his GF.
the cracked jokes are very funny too, you can't help smiling : ). i think sensei made a good work, and it's a very worth of your time.
I didn't like it
I like romances. I like it when two characters slowly fall for each other.
I hated Koukou Debut, and it has everything to do with the characters. You have your 'strong' and 'clueless' female lead. Then there's the 'cool' and 'aloof' but 'with a heart of gold' male lead. Female lead wants a boyfriend. Female lead sees hot male lead and begs him to teach her how to get a boyfriend.
Clueless girl + hot guy + teaching something = instant love.
That's basically the formula of this series. It's generic, nothing special, and the characters are so one dimensional and they make me want to rip the hair out of my head. I didn't like any of them, and if no character is likable, then the entire series is bad. Especially the female lead, she could get on my nerves so many times. Stop trying to act out your stereotype so much (the clueless and strong part) and break away from it! Become a real character damnit! But alas, Koukou Debut is a generic shoujo romance with stupid characters.
It's probably why most people love it.
Avoid Koukou Debut if you seem to find yourself disliking many shoujos, and actually want to read about likable characters with an honest romance.
I couldn't finish it...
I tried reading this many times, and this time I got up to ch17 but I am stopping here... The art is ugly but the characters are ok (expressions are rich), but seriously, the heroine is too embarrassing and too clueless (not realistic)... I got a fair bit of laugh out of it and Yoh is sweet. I just couldn't be bother reading it anymore!
I first read this series when I was around 1st or 2nd year and now I'm in 4th year and I reread the series... it occured to me that other than the beginning, everything else is boring Especially the ending The only thing that interested me was the ex-girlfriend issue. I'm quite annoyed with the guy character, what's his again?? I have no idea why girls go gaga about this Oh well,It's probably because I'm pretty dense But I really love the drawings so.. thumbs up for that
ah a nice break from the flowery shoujo panels
plot>6 character development > 8 romance > 8 comedy > 9 ending >9
what else do u need pick it up and read it now
Overall: a good feel
The beginning arcs were pretty addicting. I love the heroine a lot because she's honest and pure. She takes the courage to walk into the unknown world of romance and relationships. Give it a shot... at least for the first few volumes.
And I got re-hooked to it all over again. I've been on a re-reading spree. Koukou Debut really is one of my favorites. I think it was how it wasn't too complicated and there weren't love rivals popping up out of nowhere. It didn't involve magic or world catastrophe and it focused on how the relationships of the main couple and their friends grew. Not that manga with magic and catastrophes can't be good too, but I think this series just made me smile...
