There is a world of myth and magic that intersects ours, and only a special few can see it. Misao Harada is one such person, and she wants nothing to do with magical realms. She just wants to have a normal high school life and maybe get a boyfriend.
But she is the bride of demon prophecy, and her blood grants incredible powers, her flesh immortality. Now the demon realm is fighting over the right to her hand...or her life!
Black Bird received the 54th Shogakukan Manga Award for shoujo manga.

I've read until vol 5... i can say it's quite decent. nothing too great but it's still nice. i think the beginning was a lot better... i'm looking forward for the next chapters. =)
FIRST 10 out 10
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Seriously, i have READ a lot of manga but none deserve a 10! I like how Misao is reacting. She isn't the type who just runs into a hot guy's arm just because he's hot and willing to marry her...! She did consider the fact that he's a monster and her future with him. I like how she measure carefully whether the Kyo is lying or not...( she's WAY better than Bella in Twilight...if you know what i mean) If you are chinese.......you ar in luck, u can read ahead to vol 4 and FARTHUR if you ar japanese...
It suck if u can read only english since there's only 5 chapters
DEFINITELy must read it!!!!
The art is good but the nose on the man is tooooooooo up.....but thats the ONLY major flaw in the manga. The beginning is REALLY CUTE! The plot is getting more interesting as you read on!!! The romance is great!!! The comedy is great! i truly am enjoying this manga! i do reccomened this manga!
Not Great, but Not Bad
Honestly its not that bad, if you can get past the heroine been so, I don't really know how to describe, but weak would be best for a lack of a better word. She's there to support the main lead, and serves her purpose well, I think. At first I was excited reading it, but she does start getting annoying, and somehow manages to ruin the story. In all honestly the only reason I believe there even is a story is because of Shou, and its the only thing that keeps me reading it, cause he causes the story to go in all kinds of directions whether directly or indirectly.
Similar, yet not so much...
@person below me: Clearly, you didn't read further than chapter 7, because in 8 it clearly shows why he wants to make her his bride, and it has nothing to do with her blood. Furthermore, it's stated by the author that she THOUGHT to make him 20 yrs. old, but realized later it wouldn't work, therefore he is not.
The early volumes have an almost eerie similarity to Love Monster. While this story is more complex and i dare say dramatic, the characters are not as superficial as LM. The smut is the same though, as is the heroine's insecurities, lack of judgement and even clumsiness. They are pretty much the same character, but with less friends? The hero here is better IMHO, not perfect of course. While the hero in LM was more arrogant, this one is not like that at all.
Don't get me wrong, none of these are complains, because i have enjoyed the series thus far, even with all those cliches. I can understand why the heroines are bubbly and almost helpless; these kind of heroes are perfect for them. I just wished they would make the heroine a little stronger, to at least not be a hindrance, and more honest with her feelings from the beginning. My other only niggle, is the love triangles. I get that some readers like it and it makes the story more "livelier" for some; but i much rather have more slice of life.

Depends on what you like...
Overall i don't think this manga is bad or great either.
My reasons for saying that it is "bad" in a sense is because the female protagonist is very repetitive. In almost every chapter she cries (due to EXTREME happiness or EXTREME sadness or just because). I'm not sure if this is suppose to be her selling point as a very overly emotional person, or if she is suppose to be a very apathetic person. Personally, in my eyes, she is too overly emotional. I mean, you can cry here and there, but the amount of tears she has shed through the whole manga could probably fill a pool by now.
The male protagonists Kyo and Shou are alright. They aren't annoying, I like Kyo because he's hilariously perverted ( but that's just my preference ^^) and Shou is pretty cool too just because he's mysterious, you just want to read more about him to know what is on his mind.
The other side characters are alright, i can't really say because rarely does the author focus on them, they might have a small chunk of a chapter, but other than that they seem to me as bishies to fill the page with. with the exception of the little kids, those kids are sooo cute...
Overall this manga is average. It's got some flaws mostly relating to the characters themselves, the plot had potential the be really interesting, but ended up being muddled up, even i'm not sure whats happening anymore. The art is so and so, i mean it's good, but its nothing special or very detailed.
But what wiill probably keep me reading is ofcourse the desire to get things cleared up and secretly hoping something mind blowingly awesome might happen.(you never know)

I personally like it, but that is only because I like shojo. Unless you love shojo (when I say love I mnean love not like) don't read this. Yeah, It has cliches and yeah the main girl is sometimes too stupid to live but hey it is a SHOJO.
Better than "Love Monster"
As the subject says, Black Bird is far better than Love Monster (which I stopped reading after chapter 45). While the protagonist, Misao, is somewhat frustrating, I truly enjoy reading this. Also, if there wasn't some sort of conflict
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Misao's insistent refusal comes to mind
, then it wouldn't be very interesting at all. I think people who complain about characters whose actions annoy them or characters who don't act typically or necessarily with common sense should remember that (and not just with this manga; with others as well).
people might say that it's like Love Monster and i agree but in this case the heorine is stronger, the plot is better, and there's more dangers and suspense. and i love how the guy becomes her teacher. =] the art is amazing. and soo much better then Love Monster. I really wish the next chapter would come out soon though cause this series hasn't been updated in a while.
totally recommend for people who like Love Monster and wish for something better.
Art and Story= LOTS OF SMILIES!!!!!!
The story and art are great! I have read the first three books 15 times each(those are the ones I own)! I love the way the drama flows with the characters personalities, and how it shows readers the real fiction and some beliefs of Japan, while adding some comedy to it.
The half points off is that the author always resorts to the "damsel in distress" detail. I know some of us girls to cry a lot to show feelings, like Misao from the above description. But I know we girls are proud and strong, I and I feel that we can do better than Misao, right? Even though the author is a woman.
A great manga, and I think an anime should be brought out to those who are allowed to watch!!
